Chapter 430
Chapter 430:
Jeannine looked at her with quiet respect. “Agreed. I will funnel the support through the Solomon accounts p>
“And one more thing,” Eliza said. “I want to see him. Before I go p>
“Eliza, he gave strict orders p>
“I don’t need to talk to him. I just want to see him. One last time. Please, Jeannine p>
Jeannine sighed. “There is an observation deck. It overlooks the ICU ward. One-way glass p>
“Take me there p>

The observation room was dark and cold.
Eliza stood pressed against the glass.
Down below, in the brightly lit ICU room, Dallas lay in a tangle of wires and tubes. He looked so small. So fragile. The man who had carried her out of a burning building. The man who had jumped into a freezing river for her. The man who had made Anson Hyde flinch with a single look.
Now he was just a man. A broken man.
Eliza placed her hand on the glass and traced the outline of his face.
“I’m not leaving you because I want to,” she whispered, her breath fogging the glass. “I’m leaving to save the best part of you p>
She watched his chest rise and fall with the help of the ventilator.
“Fight, Dallas,” she said. “Please fight. Be there when I come back p>
Tears streamed down her face, but she didn’t wipe them away. She let them fall — a silent offering.
“Time to go,” Jeannine said from the doorway.
Eliza nodded. She turned her back on the glass. She didn’t look back.
In the underground garage, a black armored SUV was waiting, its engine idling with a low rumble that echoed off the concrete walls. Three men stood by the car — not regular security. They wore tactical gear with no insignias.
“This is Kane,” Jeannine said, gesturing to the leader. He had a scar running down his cheek and eyes that missed nothing. “He leads the Shadow Unit. He answers only to me. He will guard you with his life p>
Kane nodded to Eliza. “Ma’am p>
Eliza climbed into the back seat. The windows were tinted so dark she couldn’t see out.
Jeannine leaned in.
“Remember, Eliza — you are dead to the world. Don’t contact anyone. Not Azalea. Not Serena. No one p>
“I know,” Eliza said. Her hand went to her stomach. “I’m doing this for the baby p>
Jeannine placed a hand over hers. “And remember the story. You signed the papers. You left him because he’s broken. If anyone ever finds you, that is the truth you tell. It’s the only lie that will keep you both safe p>
“I understand,” Eliza whispered.
Jeannine slapped the roof of the car.
The SUV pulled out of the garage and disappeared into the rainy night. Jeannine watched it go. Then she pulled out her phone.
She dialed Dr. Vance.
“It’s done,” she said. “She’s gone p>
“Did she sign the papers?” Vance asked.
