Chapter 22
Alice put all her strength into that slap, and Aurora was knocked down, even stopping her from crying.
“Alice!” Michael stepped forward and grabbed Alice’s wrist.

Everyone else in the ward forgot to breathe; no one expected Alice to be so ruthless.
Alice pulled her hand back, took a wet wipe from her bag, and carefully cleaned her palm.
“Mr. Johnson, everyone heard what was said just now, and you were a witness. The truth is out, and I acted according to the agreement. Any problems?” Her eyes were cold, like a beast ready to hunt at any moment.
Michael was slightly stunned. He had never seen her like this, not submissive, but full of hostility.
Alice still looked at him mockingly. “Aurora slandered and framed me. She pulled me to the middle of the shelves. It’s clear in the video. Maybe she pressed the button on purpose to frame me p>
“If there was no evidence, you would have convicted me based on her words. Then I would not only have to compensate for all the costs but also be fired by the company. Due to the non-compete agreement, I wouldn’t be able to work in this industry again p>
“I’ve suffered such a great injustice. Why can’t I seek justice for myself?” Her gaze was firm, not avoiding or flinching, with no resentment
in her eyes, only sarcasm.
“Besides, if Mr. Cooper hadn’t woken up, you would have sent me to the police station without mercy. I would be guilty of causing serious injury by negligence. Besides compensating and apologizing, I might have to spend years in prison. Now, just giving Aurora a slap is
letting her off easy p>
Everyone was silent, only Aurora’s low sobs echoed.
Michael looked at Alice in silence.
She had always been gentle and submissive around him, never arguing like today.
Suddenly, Aurora got up from the ground and threw herself into Michael’s arms. “Mr. Johnson, I’m sorry, I slandered Alice. I deserve this.
“I just couldn’t stand watching you care about her so much! But I didn’t touch the button. The video shows it. She’s slandering me now.
She cried pitifully, her voice full of accusations, as if she were the one who was nearly wrongfully imprisoned.
Michael held her tenderly, stroking her back.
Seeing the pity in his eyes, Aurora lowered her head, curved her mouth into a smile, and cried even more.

Chapter 22
I betrayed my beliefs, but it was only because I fell in love with someone I shouldn’t have. But is it wrong to love someone p>
“I was just jealous that Alice was always by your side. I don’t want to be the third wheel in a relationship p>
She perfectly played the role of an innocent girl who fell in love.
‘No, you’re not the third wheel, never.” Michael’s voice was firm.
Everyone looked at them hugging, sympathizing with Alice.
They all knew Alice was the woman by Michael’s side.
At this moment, Alice was extremely calm, with no sarcasm in her eyes.
Aurora was not the third wheel because she was never Michael’s girlfriend, not even a lover.
Michael looked at Alice angrily, his tone threatening. It ends here. No one should mention it again. Especially you, Alice p>
Alice didn’t even bother to fake a smile; she just nodded silently.
She had had enough.
Looking at the still-crying Aurora, Alice took a deep breath.
“Mr. Johnson, I was injured on the job today. The doctor said I need to rest in bed and can’t work for three months p>
“My contract expires in less than three months. By then, I’ll be leaving the job and won’t be affected by the non-compete agreement p>
She finally smiled. She no longer had to work for Michael.
Hearing her words, Aurora forgot to cry, looking at her in disbelief. She was just leaving? Not making a big deal out of it?
Aurora couldn’t understand her intentions, shrinking into Michael’s arms, unsure how to respond.
Alice looked at Michael seriously. “Mr. Johnson, you should remember that in the chaos, you pushed me under the shelves, causing my injury. I won’t hold you responsible for it p>
“But the company needs to cover my medical expenses, lost wages, and injury compensation. I’ll apply with the HR department.
“By the way, I’ll email my resignation to the HR department. Mr. Johnson, please approve it, or you’ll need to compensate me for additional economic losses p>
She had thought it through. Her relationship with Michael was just a transaction.

Chapter 22
He gave her a good job and a comfortable life, and she became his tool for work and career.
But she wasn’t a tool or a doll; she had feelings too.
She could tolerate Michael for not loving her, but she couldn’t tolerate him belittling her, not trusting her, and even helping Aurora
suppress her when she did nothing wrong.
Without worrying about the non-compete agreement, she had nothing to fear.
For the last three months, she didn’t want to work for him or watch them act out their love story at the company.
After things settled, Alice bought a crutch at the hospital and went home alone.
Since she wanted to break up, she wanted it clean. She didn’t care about the house Michael gave her. Another woman would eventually
live there.
Alice felt a headache as soon as she got home. After living there for ten years, there was too much stuff.
Most importantly, she was about to be homeless.
When she started packing in the walk-in closet, she realized how little truly belonged to her.
Michael had given her very few things. Most of the clothes were business suits, and the evening gowns were company-paid.
Every year on her birthday, Michael would let her buy gifts for herself. But she was still the one who paid for them p>
The only birthday gift Michael had ever given her was a ruby collarbone necklace, a small ruby that matched the red mole on her back.
She didn’t take anything else, just put on the necklace.
Then, she heard the door open. Michael pushed her against the wardrobe without a word.
Seeing the necklace on her neck, Michael paused, then sneered, “You have learned these tricks too p>
To him, everything Alice did was just playing hard to get because there was now an Aurora by his side.
But in ten years, she had never done this. It was the first time she said she wanted to leave.
Seeing the suitcase by her side, Michael snorted, holding her waist even tighter.
“Nice move, Alice. Are you planning to empty my place? Don’t forget, this is just a temporary stay for you p>
“I know. There will be another mistress here, so I’m just making room for you p>

Alice still smiled, with no warmth in her eyes.
Suddenly, she was tired. Just like he said, it was enough.
She pushed his chest and whispered, “Mr. Johnson, this will make me feel like you still have feelings for me p>
