Eighth-Born Luna Chapter 169

Chapter 169

Emily’s POV

The ceremony lasted far longer than I expected. Not because the priestesses dragged it outbut because tonight, Nathan wasn’t simply crowning leaders.

He was rebuilding our entire world as Alpha King.

Twelve Alpha positions stood empty after Silas’s war. Twelve broken packs were waiting for someone strong enough to hold them together before everything collapsed into chaos.

Nathan took every single choice seriously. Especially the sons.

Seven of the candidates were heirs of dead Alphas. They were young men standing beneath the memorial tree, wearing their fathers‘ old ceremonial colors like armor that was still too heavy for their shoulders. Some looked

terrified. Some looked angry. Others looked hungry for power.

And that was exactly why Nathan kept glancing at me during every oath.

Because I could feel them. Every lie, every fear, and every hidden crack beneath their masks.

The first son stepped forward, kneeling before Nathan while the priestesses circled him slowly beneath the

antern light.

“Do you accept responsibility for the Black River Pack?” the priestess asked.

The boy’s voice shook slightly. “I do.”

Nathan’s mental voice brushed against mine through our bond. “What do you feel?”

I focused carefully on the boy’s energy. Fear. Deep grief. But there was genuine loyalty there, too. No greed. No

Corruption.

“He’s clean,” I answered softly.

Nathan gave a single nod. Rise, Alpha Harvie.”

The crowd erupted into applause

One by one, the ceremony continued. Some candidates Nathan accepted right away. Others… not so much.

One Beta from the western territories smiled too easily while swearing loyalty. But underneath his polished confidence, I felt ambition twisting sharply beneath the surface. It was the dangerous kind–the kind that would eventually lead to betrayal.

“No,” I warned Nathan quietly.

Nathan didn’t even hesitate. “Rejected.”

The wolf’s face fellhis confidence vanishing. Good.

2:06 pm

Then came the representative from my old pack. The moment he stepped forward, a wave of cold recognition Kashed over me.

I remembered him. He hadn’t been openly cruel back then, but he was weak. Cowardly. He was the kind of man who looked away while innocent–wolves suffered because protecting his own skin mattered more than anything

else.

Nathan sensed my reaction through the bond. “…Problem?”

‘Yes.”

The candidate smiled nervously toward us, clearly already imagining himself wearing the Alpha alpha title.

I looked straight into his eyes.

And I felt it.

Resentment. Greed. A desperate fear of losing his authority.

“He’ll abuse his power,” I told Nathan firmly through the bond. “And he still thinks Omegas exist just to obey

im.”

Nathan’s expression darkened.

“Then he’s done.”

The wolf turned pale beneath Nathan’s stare.

“You are not fit to lead a pack,” Nathan announced coldly before the entire gathering.

Whispers exploded through the crowd. The man looked horrified. “But-”

‘Leave.”

The man started to argue, his voice cracking, but then he looked at Nathan’s face and backed away. He was gone.

Nathan leaned slightly toward me. “Then who?”

For a second, my mind went back to the pack gates. I remembered the cold rain. I remembered shaking hands ecretly pressing keys into mine, helping me escape. A quiet wolf who risked his own safety simply because he Couldn’t watch the injustice anymore.

“There was someone else,” I said softly.

Nathan waited patiently.

“He helped me run,” I said. “When nobody else did.”

Name?”

gave it to him. Nathan nodded once without hesitation.

2:06 pm

“Then we’ll go to his territory personally,” his eyes hardened slightly. “And I’ll make him Alpha myself.”

Relief washed over me. My old pack actually had a chance.

Hours later, the ceremony transformed into a celebration. Music filled the territory beneath the glowing lanterns, and long buffet tables stretched across the grass under the memorial tree. For weeks, we had only known stress, but now, wolves laughed freely again.

Surviving Alphas stood beside their Lunas, drinking together while elders traded stories near the fire pits. Some danced, some cried quietly, and others simply sat staring at the sky like they still couldn’t believe they survived.

The rejected candidates left early. Nobody stopped them.

Nathan stood beside me near the center tables, speaking with several newly crowned Alphas. His hand stayed warm against my lower back the entire night.

Mine. Still mine. That thought never stopped feeling miraculous.

Eventually, I slipped away toward the drink tables. Marcus stood there holding Poppy’s hand while she leaned against him, laughing softly at something he whispered.

I smiled as I walked up.

“So,” I asked casually, “when exactly is your ceremony happening?”

Marcus blinked. “…What ceremony?”

Poppy smacked his arm. “Our mating ceremony, idiot./

“Oh.” Marcus looked thoughtful for a second. “We could do it right now.”

Poppy froze. “…Wait. Seriously?”

“Why not?”

I laughed. “The Moon Goddess knows he’s actually serious.”

Marcus shrugged. “I already almost died about six times this year. Seems stupid to wait now.”

It was fair logic. Poppy looked between all of us in complete shock. “…Right now?”

Nathan appeared beside me, holding two glasses. “What are we doing right now?”

Apparently getting them married,” I told him.

Nathan looked at Marcus, then at Poppy, and shrugged. “Sure.”

Poppy made a strangled noise.

Ten minutes later, both of them stood beneath the memorial tree. One of the priestesses tried very hard not to

2:06 pm

laugh during the rushed ceremony. Marcus held Poppy’s hands tightly as the ceremonial blade sliced across both their palms.

“I, Marcus, accept you.”

Poppy’s eyes filled with tears1, Poppy, accept you.”

The priestess smiled warmly. “Then by Moon Goddess law–kiss your mate.”

Marcus didn’t need to be told twice. The crowd exploded into cheers around them while Poppy laughed against his mouth. For a very long time, joy finally felt loude than grief.

Later that night, Jessie dragged both me and Poppy toward the dancing circle while the musicians played beneath the glowing lanterns. Poppy was still blushing.

“I’m married,” she whispered.

You’ve been saying that every three minutes,” Jessie said.

“Because I am!”

I laughed softly beside them, enjoying the way the music carried through the warm night air. Across the clearing,

spotted Meredith sitting with several pack women. One of the babies slept peacefully against her chest.

Not far away, Nathan stood among the new Alphas, speaking quietly with them beneath the lantern glow. He

looked strong, calm, and every inch a king.

But every few seconds, his eyes searched for me in the crowd. And every single time he found me, something

inside my chest softened.

“You’re staring again,” Jessie teased, bumping her shoulder against mine. “I can physically feel how deeply in love,

both of you are. It’s almost gross.

“Traitor,” I said.

“I stand by my statement.”

NearbyMarcus and Liam were arguing near the drink tablesLiam waving his hands around dramatically. That was never a good sign. A minute laterboth of them wandered over toward us, still mid–conversation.

“…I’m just saying this is complete bullshit,” Liam complained.

Marcus looked completely unbothered. “You’ll survive.”

“No, I won’t.” Liam pointed an accusing finger at him. “Do you realize how much planning I already did?”

Poppy blinked. “…Planning for what?”

“The bachelor party!”

Marcus groaned. “Oh, come on.”

2:06 pm

“No,” Liam continued angrily. “Because Nathan already robbed me of one.”

Right on cue, Nathan appeared beside me, handing me a glass. “…What did I do now?”

Liam looked personally betrayed. “You disappeared into emotional mate–land with Emily before I could throw

you a proper bachelor party.”

Nathan didn’t look remotely guilty. “Correct.”

“And now Marcus gets secretly married in ten minutes under a tree like some impulsive squirrel.”

Poppy burst out laughing, and Marcus choked on his drink.

“That is the weirdest insult I’ve ever heard,” Jessie said.

“I HAD THINGS PLANNED!” Liam continued dramatically. “Alcohol. Pocker. Potential property damage.”

“You mean crimes,” Nathan corrected calmly.

“Memories.”

I laughed so hard I nearly spilled my drink. Nathan wrapped one arm around my waist, pulling me close while Liam kept ranting.

“And now what? I just wasted weeks organizing chaos for nothing.”

“You organized a bachelor party for weeks?” Marcus asked suspiciously.

“…No.”

“You absolutely did.”

“Maybe a little.”

Nathan shook his head slowly. “This is exactly why nobody told you beforehand.”

“You people are ungrateful.”

We all started laughing again. Hearing that much laughter around me after everything we survived still felt

¡urreal.

I looked around slowly beneath the lantern lights.

Poppy was smiling against Marcus’s shoulder.

Jessie was dancing barefoot in the grass.

Liam was loudly arguing with one of the musicians about song choices, while Meredyth gently rocked a sleeping baby near the memorial tree

2:06 pm PP

And Nathan stood right beside me, looking like he belonged there so naturally it hurt.

My home. My future. My family.

Something deep inside me shifted. It wasn’t pain, and it wasn’t fear. It was something different–protective and incredibly warm. My hand moved unconsciously toward my stomach before I quickly caught myself and pulled it

back.

Nathan noticed the gesture. His eyes narrowed slightly as he turned his full attention to me.

“…Emily?”

For a second, my heart raced. Not here. Not yet. I wasn’t even fully sure how to say the words out loud, or if I was ready for what they meant. The Moon Goddess’s words echoed faintly through my mind again.

“Raise what comes next with love…”

My pulse picked up. Nathan stepped a little closer, concern replacing the amusement on his face.

“What’s wrong?”

stared at him for a second too long. How was I supposed to even begin this conversation?

“…Can I steal you for a minute?”
