Chapter 228
Chapter 228:
“Oh my God! You brought my Cuchita?” I shouted as I hurried toward them, not realizing Nanay Emily had stopped in her tracks behind me.
“How are you, Cuchita? I missed you so much p>
I scooped her into my arms, and she tucked her head under my chin like she always did.
“For God’s sake, woman. Did you really have to shout her name like that?” Craig asked, shaking his head as if he’d given up on me.
“Why shouldn’t I? I missed Cuchita so much!” I replied, planting a kiss on top of her head.
“What did you say her name is p>
Nanay Emily’s amused gaze settled on us as she approached, holding a tray full of pancakes.

“She named her cat Cuchita, Nanay Emily. For God’s sake, can you believe it? She gave a beautiful Persian cat that ridiculous name p>
Emily burst out laughing at his words.
“You need to relax! Look at her, she loves it, don’t you, Cuchita p>
I scratched the cat’s neck, and she rewarded me with a soft meow.
“See? She likes it p>
Nanay Emily’s laughter erupted even louder this time.
“Oh, come on. Did she ever get a say in her own name p>
I couldn’t help rolling my eyes, hugging my cat tightly. “I missed you, Cuchita. Did you miss me too p>
“Eat, Sophia. I’ll go get the juice from the fridge,” Nanay Emily said, shaking her head gently.
“Thank you, Nanay,” Craig and I responded together.
“You’re welcome, Anak p>
As soon as she disappeared into the kitchen, Craig nudged my arm.
“Hey, what does Anak mean?” he asked, already reaching for his pancake.
Sliding onto the bench beside him, I placed Cuchita on my lap.
“Anak means child. In my case, she uses it to mean daughter p>
“Is it a Filipino word p>
“Yes. That’s how Filipino parents address their children p>
“So, does she also call her husband Anak p>
“Yes, but in that case, it means son p>
Mmm. He seemed to think about that for a moment, then looked at me with a mischievous smile.
“Why? What’s that look supposed to mean?” I asked, trying to read his expression.
“Nothing. Just thought of something p>
“And what’s that p>
A little gleam appeared in his eyes as he leaned closer.
“If Daniel and Sophia have already spent the night together, do you think they might have a baby p>
I grimaced at Craig’s ridiculous question, about to give him a piece of my mind, when Nanay Emily’s laugh rang out behind us.
“Of course, Craig! That’s how it works p>
The two of them burst out laughing, high-fiving as she set a tray down on the coffee table.
Honestly, if Nanay hadn’t been present, I might have threatened to turn Craig into cat food for Cuchita.
“See, Nanay agrees with me p>
Craig grinned, waving his hand toward me.
“Maybe so, but now I’m thinking about cutting your salary this month. Any thoughts on that p>
Their laughter died down, and I gave them a sickeningly sweet smile.
“Oh, come on, Sophia. You know I just like to joke around p>
He scratched the back of his neck, still wearing a sheepish grin.
