Eighth-Born Luna Chapter 137

Chapter 137

Emily’s POV

Nathan sat beside me on the clinic bench with one arm firmly around my waist as if he still didn’t trust me not to

collapse.

Honestly? Fair. The world still felt slightly tilted every time I moved too fast.

“I’m better now,” I insisted quietly.

Nathan snorted beside me. “You’re lying.”

I frowned at him. “I’m serious.”

“You still look like you’re about to pass out.”

“That’s just my face.”

Nathan actually laughed softly at that, but his grip tightened anyway, pulling me flush against his side. He still vasn’t convinced I wouldn’t crumble right in front of him.

The early afternoon breeze moved through the trees around the clinic grounds. It felt safe. Peaceful. Too

>eaceful.

“Why are you pushing yourself this hard for Stella?” Nathan asked quietly. He sounded careful, completely devoid of judgment–just genuinely confused.

I looked down at my hands for a long moment before answering. “Because nobody saved me.”

Nathan went completely rigid beside me.

“When I was trapped there…” I forced the words out past the sudden lump in my throat. “Every day, I kept vaiting for someone kind to show up.” I swallowed hard. “And nobody did.”

Nathan looked away, a sharp flash of pain crossing his features. I regretted saying it the second I saw his face.

“I didn’t mean—”

“I know,” he cut in, his voice rough. “But I should’ve found you sooner.”

grabbed his hand right away. “Nathan.”

He looked back at me.

“You came for me.”

Even with those wordsthe guilt didn’t leave his eyes. Hell. This man would probably blame himself for breathing wrong near me at this point.

“And now I’m going back for everyone else,” I whispered softly.

:38 pm PPTM

Nathan stared at me. “You really are impossible.”

And yet you’re obsessed with me.”

‘Tragically.”

I smiled weakly and forced myself up. “Okay. Enough emotional conversations.”

Nathan was on his feet a split second later, his hand resting firmly against my back. “You can barely walk

traight.”

“I’m walking, aren’t I?”

Debatable.”

I rolled my eyes as we walked into the clinic wing together.

The moment the nurses saw me, panic spread across their faces.

“Luna Emily-”

“Do you need a wheelchair?”

“We can bring a stretcher-”

“I’m fine,” I interrupted quickly. “I need to see Stella.”

The nurses exchanged nervous looks but stepped aside right away. Nathan practically held half my weight as we

walked deeper into the quiet halls.

And then, we entered Stella’s room.

My stomach dropped. She looked horrible–far worse than before. Her skin had gone a pale, sickly gray, and dark ircles hollowed out the skin beneath her eyes. She barely even looked alive.

“She’s getting worse,” one nurse whispered quietly. “I’ll get Doctor Reed.”

Nathan’s arm tightened around me, but I barely noticed. All I could see was Stella. The woman who once terrified

ntire rooms now looked fragile enough to break if the wind blew too hard.

A minute later, Doctor Reed walked in. The moment he spotted me standing there, he looked deeply nimpressed. “You should be resting, too.”

“What’s wrong with her?”

He sighed heavily“She’s critical.”

A cold chill ran through me.

“The pregnancy is unstable,” he continued carefully. “I’m honestly not sure we can save the baby.”

Nathan went rigid beside me.

And Stella?” I asked quietly.

Doctor Reed hesitated, which already told me everything. “There’s no guarantee there either.”

The temperature in the room felt like it had plummeted.

“If her mate was here,” Reed explained softly, “the bond could help stabilize her energy.”

“As far as I know, she doesn’t have a mate.”

“But without mate…” Reed shook his head slowly. “Medicine isn’t enough. We’re racing death right now.”

No. No, no, no. Not after everything.

stepped toward the bed, Nathan following close behind me. “Stella.”

Her eyelids barely moved at first. Then slowly she turned her head toward me.

“…Emily?” Her voice sounded ghostly, like she was already halfway gone.

Something inside me snapped. I turned sharply toward Liam. “Give me the dagger.”

Nathan reacted instantly. “Emily, no.”

“She’s dying.”

“And you’re going to get yourself killed trying to save her,” he shot back.

I looked straight into Nathan’s eyes. “Nathan.” My voice cracked slightly. “I swear to you… I will never ask you for

inything else.”

The flash of pain that crossed his features nearly tore me apart. Please let me help her.”

We locked eyes for a long, heavy moment. Then finally, Nathan exhaled hard through his nose, completely

lefeated. “…Fine.”

Relief washed over me, but Nathan grabbed my wrist before Liam could move.

“If something goes wrong,” he said quietly, dead serious, “I’m taking it away from you.”

nodded quickly. “Okay.”

Liam carefully unwrapped the dagger from the black cloth before handing it to me.

The second my fingers brushed the hilt, the ruby pulsed violently. Resistance slammed into me right away—pure, aw hatred. The dagger absolutely loathed my touch.

Nathan helped lower me carefully onto the edge of Stella’s bed. “You’re shaking,” he whispered.

1:38 pm PPTM

“I know.”

I placed one hand against Stella’s stomach and reached for my power. At first, nothing happened. Then suddenlylight exploded through my veins. White energy burst from my hands in violent streams, flooding directly into Stella’s body. The heating rune on my wrist ignited.

Stella gasped sharply beneath my hands. And then, I felt it.

Her pain. All of it. It poured into me like poison her weakness, her fear, and the dying, sluggish heartbeat of the

child inside her. My vision blurred.

“Oh, God…”

But underneath the agony, another heartbeat suddenly grew stronger. The baby. I felt it–tiny, fragile, but ighting. Instinctively, I pushed more power into them.

The white light intensified around us, blinding and fierce. Someone shouted my name. Maybe Nathan, maybe Liam–I couldn’t tell anymore.

Everything hurt. The pain inside Stella kept pouring into me while my life force rushed back into her. An exchange. Life for suffering. Healing for agony.

I felt like I was physically dragging both Stella and her child out of the grave, while death reached back to grab me

instead.

Black spots started swallowing the edges of my vision. Nathan’s voice sounded distant now, frantic and panicked.

“Emily!”

Suddenly, the baby’s heartbeat slammed strong and steady against my senses. Alive.

Stella gasped violently beneath my hands.

And then, everything went black.
