Chapter 176
Chapter 176:
But did she always have to rub it in my face? Did she always have to mock me as if she knew my past?
“You okay?” Jaris’s soothing voice pulled me out of my bitter thoughts. I hadn’t even realized he had gotten closer.
“Y-yeah,” I sniffled, tucking some strands of hair behind my ear.
I looked everywhere but at him, afraid he would see the tears in my eyes.
“You shouldn’t take what she said to heart. You know Marta can be silly p>
I chuckled softly. Yeah, she was worse than silly.
“Thank you. Goodnight p>
I didn’t realize how funny that sounded—it was already four a.m.
He didn’t respond until I was closing the door.

MARTA
She was losing her mind.
She had spent a long time with her family trying to come up with something against Lyric. They had even contemplated killing her but were hesitant—it was too risky. If Lyric survived and it was somehow traced back to them, they’d be doomed. If they were going to kill her, it would have to be done carefully.
She returned home late and was furious when she checked on the kids and found out from the nanny that they were at Lyric’s place.

If she had hated Lyric before, she despised her now. If there were a word stronger than loathe, she would have used it.
She wanted Lyric as far away from her kids as possible—and she was ready to do anything to make that happen.

In the family, she always preferred speaking with her grandmother. The woman was the smartest of them all and skilled when it came to making important plans.
“What is it, Marta? It’s late.” Her grandmother sounded grumpy, as always.
Marta went straight to the point, her voice cold. “We need to take care of the woman. Penelope p>
There was a long pause.
“Why?” her grandmother asked.
“She’s a threat. She knows too much already. She even knows about Lyric being the mother of the twins. How sure are we that she won’t try to snitch on us soon p>
Another moment of silence passed before her grandmother hummed.
“I think you’re right. I’ll have someone take care of it as soon as possible p>
