Chapter 504
Chapter 504
I didn’t believe it.
When Lyric had told me Marta would want to use it against her, I thought it was a lie.
My Beta and Chief of Security could not hide their shock. But there was no reaction on my face.
I retraced my steps, going back to the fallen Luna. “I know, Marta.” That was what she’d talked about in the car.
To say I’d been broken would be an understatement. The truth came as a bitter blow that threatened to collapse my heart. Xyla being a Siphon wasn’t something I’d have thought possible.
For a while, I’d been conflicted with my emotions until I came to terms with the fact that my little girl had been totally clueless and only wanted to save someone from my mum.
My mum. She was the reason Lyric lost our child. If Xyla hadn’t stopped her, Lyric would’ve ended up dead as well.
Though it didn’t stop me from feeling terrible about what Xyla did, maybe I could worry about that later. For now, I needed to deal with the woman who was supposed to be her mother.
Marta looked at me with confusion. “Y—you know p>
I nodded. “Lyric told me. She also told me you’d want to use it against her… but I didn’t believe it p>
Placing my hands on either side of her chair, I leaned in toward her, our faces inches apart. “Why don’t you tell me, Marta Monroe? Why would you hold your own daughter’s secret against another woman? Why would someone else be more concerned about protecting Xyla than you, who is meant to be her sole protector p>
Light vanished from her eyes. Her lips moved but didn’t make a sound. She must’ve realized how much of a fuck-up she just made.
Oh, Marta. How the hell did I not see this?

I shook my head at her, my disappointment bleeding through.
“Jace was right. You were never pregnant p>
“Jaris p>
I pulled back, just enough to hit her in the face. Her head reeled to the side as blood instantly stained her lips.
“You’ve lost the privilege to ever call my name.” I gripped her jaw. “You give it another try, you’ll lose your tongue p>
I pushed her away as if she were filth. Then, I turned to Lyric, whose face was covered with both guilt and unease.
She already told me the truth in the car about Marta threatening to expose Xyla when she discovered she was their mother. I just didn’t know how to process the fact that she lied about the twins from the scan being dead.
It all made sense—the kids’ strange attachment to her, the scan image Kael had found in her room, why she’d risk her life to come watch the kids in the Pack.
Lyric was their mother. How did we never see it?
If I had to think of all the problems I currently had, I wouldn’t move forward.
Within twenty-four hours, I got to know my chosen mate had siphoned me to make me hate her because she was forced by my brother; a woman I’d been with the longest turned out to have been working for my brother; my fated mate who I thought was long gone was actually alive; my kids belonged to Lyric, not Marta; and my daughter was the one behind my mother’s death.
Was there anyone who could be more unfortunate than I today?
If I had to worry about all the problems I had, we definitely wouldn’t move forward.
