Chapter 488
Chapter 488
I wasn’t used to having company and totally forgot to hide it from Bianca.
Her eyes shone with tears as she scurried toward me, going around to stand behind.
“What kind of a monster does this to someone? How could he p>
“It’s fine, Bianca. It’ll heal up p>
“It doesn’t matter if it does. It doesn’t change the fact that he hurt you p>
I hated how pathetic I felt.
Drawing in a long breath, I faced her. The tears on her face broke me completely.
“How can you still be with this man? No deal should be more important than your life p>
Oh, Bianca. But that was the point. The deal was my life.
“I didn’t mean for you to see this,” I forced steel into my voice. “Maybe someday, you’ll understand why this happened. But for now, I could really use some rest p>
I proceeded to dress up, ignoring her presence until she left the room.
Bianca didn’t speak freely with me for the rest of the day. She wasn’t mad at me; she was just hurt about everything and believed I was enduring things I didn’t have to.
It was quite unfortunate she didn’t understand. Nobody did.
I’d turned my phone off before coming to her place. I had no doubt Caden was looking for me and would definitely be mad when he laid eyes on me.
For today, I didn’t care. The mere thought of being with him terrified me.
I spent most of my night turning restlessly in bed, Ericka’s words haunting my dreams.
Bianca had breakfast already prepared by the time I woke up, but I had to eat alone as she told me she needed to check on her grandmother who was sick.
JARIS
“Are you sure it’s her?” I questioned Kael as we headed toward the guest office.
“Yes. I’m just as surprised. Nerion and I could take care of her if you don’t feel like it p>
She wasn’t just someone from Caden’s territory; she was Lyric’s assistant. No. I wanted this one myself.
She had a lot of balls coming here alone, demanding to see me.
She sprang from her feet when we entered, her head dipping clumsily.
“King Jaris p>
Kael and Nerion remained by the door while I went further, around the table to a seat.
The girl was shaken. What could be so important to bring her into enemy’s territory?
“You requested to see me. Don’t you find it foolish coming here with the knowledge you might not leave alive p>
I had a gut feeling she was here to spill some information that would betray Lyric, or maybe Caden.
“I don’t mind losing my life, my King. All I request are your listening ears p>
Hm. She looked worried too.
“If I were you, I’d speak quickly. Who knows when the guards will come in to lock you up p>
