Chapter 479
Chapter 479
After a couple of hours as usual, I reached the Capital City, at the very spot I always stopped. I changed in the car, wearing my usual beard and moustache and continued driving to the water park.
The place was quite big and filled with kids and their parents. Schools were on holidays, so it wasn’t surprising.
A sudden ache settled in my chest at the thought of this being the last time I got to see the kids. My kids.
I didn’t know if a time would come when it’d be safe to see them without the fear of getting caught. Or better still, if I’d ever get to tell them the truth about being their mother. Would they believe me? Would they love and accept me as one?
I knew yes, we already had a great relationship going on, but would they be ready to accept someone new as their mum?
After searching for some time, I found them at the pool slide. A smile lit my face in an instant, seeing how happy they were. Xyla was laughing so hard and passing a ball to another kid. Xylon was just around, having his own fun in the water.
Mine.
Sometimes, I tried to picture what it would have been like if Penelope hadn’t taken them away from me and we got to grow up together. Imagine watching kids as wonderful as Xyla and Xylon growing in my care.
I didn’t think I’d ever get over the pain of motherhood being ripped away from me.
I wasn’t in a hurry to leave today. This was the last time I’d get to see them in a long time.
There were a lot of people here. I was sure no one would be interested in a harmless-looking man.
My phone pinged in my pocket. I always had to check my messages whenever I was here, just in case.
When I opened the text, my heart started to race the moment I saw who it was from. It was the one I’d been eagerly waiting for.

“Hey. I’ve worked my way around the source of the antidote. Call me when you’re free p>
LYRIC
The slow drum rolled faster.
This wasn’t something that could wait. I went to bed every night hoping I’d get this text soon.
I looked around, searching for a quiet place and found one under a big tree. There were fewer people there.
I went over and quickly dialed the number.
Eight months ago, if someone had told me this very person and I would work together on something, I would’ve doubted it.
I was curious about the antidote Caden had used to revive Jaris. Fine, he said I couldn’t Siphon him because the poison had been made with my blood. Even that was confusing because I thought I should be able to siphon anyone, irrespective of the source of the poison.
Then, the more complex one was the antidote. I was curious to know which antidote was strong enough to bypass the power of a Siphon’s blood. I wanted to know how Caden got something that powerful.
I’d managed to get the empty syringe he’d injected Jaris with. I guessed the monster didn’t care about the syringe because he didn’t expect me to want to do research.
The syringe was almost empty with just a very tiny part left in it. I didn’t have what it took to make the research myself. So, I had to ask for help. And ‘she’ was the only person I could think of.
“Lyric,” her voice was cold, almost lazy.
