Chapter 157
Chapter 157:
Together, the three headed down the street in search of a restaurant. Once lunch wrapped up, Jaxton’s assistant pulled up outside to whisk him away for another event that afternoon. Just before his car pulled off, he lowered the window, catching Noelle’s attention. “Should I follow you on Twitter? It could give your follower count a nice boost. I get these requests all the time from celebrities, but I hardly ever say yes. You don’t even have to answer—I know you’re hoping for it p>
With a smile that was all elegance, Noelle declined. “That won’t be necessary p>
That reply left Jaxton at a loss for words. He had no comeback for that. She really got him. Annoyance flickered in his eyes as he rolled the window back up, departing with clear irritation.
Dorothy let out a long sigh and started to offer Noelle a ride, but before she could speak, Noelle spotted someone familiar from her past. Waving Dorothy on, Noelle insisted she go ahead without her.

Soon after, Noelle found herself seated in a quiet café, tucked away upstairs in a private room.
“Noelle, fancy meeting you here.” Across the table, a man’s eyes lit up with genuine delight. He had the charm of a well-read scholar, and the joy on his face made it clear how glad he was to see her.
Returning the gesture, Noelle offered a gentle smile and replied, “It really is quite a coincidence p>
This was Monroe Deleon, someone from her high school days. Years ago, Noelle had roped him into her troubles, pretending to be in love with Monroe just to cancel her marriage arrangement with Ethan.
Thankfully, Monroe never caught on, sparing them both any embarrassment. Now they could simply enjoy a friendly conversation.
A warm grin brightened Monroe’s face. “I caught your variety show today. Didn’t know you played the banjo so well. It sounded incredible p>
“Thank you,” Noelle replied.
Monroe pulled out his phone, smiling. “Why don’t we swap numbers? I’d like to stay in touch p>
Taking a moment to consider, Noelle decided it was harmless and shared her number with him.
After saving it, Monroe explained, “I’ve been working in fashion design since college. I’m actually in this area for a project. Running into you like this was a pleasant surprise p>
Noelle’s eyebrows arched in interest. “Fashion design p>
Monroe picked up on the slight shift in her eyes and leaned in with curiosity. “Is that something you’re curious about p>
“I suppose I’m a bit interested,” Noelle said with a gentle smile, keeping her response understated.
Their conversation continued for a few more minutes before Noelle excused herself, mentioning that she had other things to do.
Waiting outside, Monroe’s assistant stepped forward. “Mr. Deleon, here you go p>
Monroe took his blazer and draped it over his arm. Turning to Noelle, he gave her a gentlemanly smile. “Would you like a lift p>
Her answer came quickly, polite but firm. “No, thank you p>
He lingered for a moment, still watching her. Another smile crept onto his lips. “Take care, then. Let’s hope we run into each other again soon p>
Later, inside Scenery Estate, Noelle entered the living room where Farrell sprawled across a couch. A generous spread of fruit and treats covered the coffee table before him, giving the place a comfortable, lived-in feeling that rivaled his own home.
With a broad, almost theatrical smile, Farrell called out, “Good afternoon, Noelle p>
