Chapter 284
Willa caught her brother’s silent plea and, after a reassuring nod, shifted her attention to Ansell’s assistant, offering a polite smile. “Howell, I reached out to you yesterday. Since Mr. White is in Cushouwana, we’d love to show him some hospitality. Does he have time today?”
Leaning in, Howell Barnes murmured softly to Ansell, “Mr. White, that’s Willa Moss.”
Confusion flickered across Ansell’s brow. “Willa Moss?”
This time, he was genuinely puzzled. He didn’t recognize her at all.

Howell, sensing Ansell’s confusion, spoke even softer, “She went to college with me. She said she’d like to meet you.”
Trusting Howell’s judgment, Ansell finally glanced toward Willa. As soon as their eyes met, a spark of excitement danced in Willa’s gaze.
Noticing this, Maxton grew visibly eager. It seemed Ansell was treating Willa with a different level of attention. Willa had always had a way of winning people over, and now she had managed to capture Ansell’s interest.
Determined not to let the opportunity slip away, Willa stepped forward. “Mr. White, Maxton is my brother. We’d be honored if you would join us for a simple meal. It would only take a little of your time.”
In an instant, the warmth left Ansell’s expression, replaced by a cold smile that cut to the bone.
That explained it—another member of the Moss family. Another person who made Noelle’s life difficult. She was just as insufferable.
Maxton couldn’t understand why Ansell’s attitude had shifted so drastically. Willa looked just as confused, unsure of what had gone wrong.
Unable to remain silent any longer, Maxton asked, “Mr. White, our family’s fashion label got kicked out of the Fashion Innovators Alliance. Could you tell us the reason?”
A cruel grin spread across Ansell’s face. “You mean your family’s so-called fashion label? Mediocre at best. Getting into the alliance was pure luck. Getting kicked out? That’s just business as usual, isn’t it?”
Wide-eyed and uncertain, the reporters exchanged glances, their confusion evident.
Everyone had thought Willa’s connection to Ansell’s assistant might actually get her somewhere with him. That belief now seemed as flimsy as ever.
Frustration biting at her, Willa squared her shoulders and spoke up. “Mr. White, we truly didn’t intend to intrude. We only wanted a chance for an honest conversation with you.”
Impatience began to flicker more clearly on Ansell’s face as he found himself still cornered.
Spotting Noelle off in the distance, waiting with a touch of irritation, did nothing to calm him.
Noelle, watching from afar, shot a bored look toward the airport exit and stifled a yawn. At that sight, Ansell sprang into action without a second thought. Keeping Noelle waiting was simply out of the question.
Howell wasted no time, chasing after his boss in a panic.
Shock rippled through the reporters as they tried to process what had just happened. Rumors had always painted Ansell as a stickler for formality, and to see him bolt like that left the crowd speechless.
A deep frown etched itself across Maxton’s face.
