Chapter 13
Chapter 13:
Noelle looked puzzled. What was he even talking about? That guy from high school?
It took her a few seconds to catch on—he was referring to the time she had asked Jeffery to cancel their arranged marriage because she had a crush on a classmate.
Seriously? He remembered that after all these years?
Ethan’s eyes darkened, his tone turning cold. “You really don’t want to be married to me, huh p>
Noelle was taken aback. Was he… hurt? Did he actually care?
He looked at her, his expression unreadable. “Fine. I’ll get someone to draft a divorce agreement. One year. After that, we’ll go our separate ways p>
One year?
Noelle was briefly stunned, but it made sense. A one-year timeline would likely satisfy Levi and ease his worries.

“Alright.” After the one-year marriage ended, she and Ethan could finally part ways and be done with each other.
“And tonight…” Noelle said, her eyes drifting toward the single bed. How were they even supposed to manage that?
Ethan followed her gaze, his eyes darkening. After giving her a long look, he turned and headed for the door. “I’ll sleep in a guest room p>
With a quiet click, the door closed behind him, leaving Noelle alone.
But that look he gave her right before leaving—it lingered. Quiet, unreadable, just like so many of his looks when they were younger. She could never tell what he was thinking. He was impossible to figure out.
Yep, they were totally incompatible.
A short while later, there was a knock at the door.
Noelle walked over and opened it to find Carson Becker, the estate’s elderly butler, standing there.
Carson, dressed neatly in his tailcoat, wore a gentle smile as he handed her a small jar of ointment. “Ma’am, I noticed your leg was hurt. This works really well—it won’t leave a scar p>
Noelle was touched by the gesture. “Thank you so much p>
Carson smiled politely, then added, “Ethan had it prepared especially for you p>
She froze.
Carson, as straightforward as ever, delivered the message exactly as it was. “He said, ‘Give this ointment to Noelle, but don’t let her know it came from me p>
Noelle stood there, speechless.
With that, Carson gave a small nod and walked away, his task complete.
Noelle looked down at the ointment in her hand, caught between confusion and surprise. So… Ethan had actually gotten this for her?
Just then, her phone buzzed. It was a message from Willa. “Noelle, how are you doing? Where are you staying tonight? At the Martin family estate p>
Noelle stared at the screen, a bitter smile tugging at her lips.
Still playing the concerned little sister, huh?
Back then, Noelle had wanted her family so badly that she kept giving in to Willa, no matter what. And look where that had gotten her.
Never again. She wouldn’t let Willa walk all over her anymore. She was done trying to please the Moss family. From now on, she’d live for herself.
