Chapter 275
Chapter 275:
“Then I’ll leave it in your hands,” Gracie said, feeling a wave of relief settle over her.
Brayden gave a short nod before heading into the hospital room with the lawyer.
Right then, Jessie walked up.
She glanced at Gracie, her eyes clouded with conflicting feelings. “Come on. It seems like everything’s been handled p>
“Okay.” They made their way back to the apartment.
The moment they got inside, Jessie pulled Gracie down onto the sofa. “You still haven’t answered me p>
Gracie knew instantly which question she meant. “This isn’t the time to talk about romance p>
“I get it,” Jessie said with a playful grin. “My dad’s throwing me a birthday party this weekend. Want to come? And if crowds make you uncomfortable, we can celebrate just the two of us afterward p>
“Of course I’ll be there,” Gracie replied without hesitation.
In her previous life, Jessie had crossed paths with a horrible man at that party, the one who led her straight into Theo’s trap… and eventually to her death.
This time, Gracie wasn’t going to let history repeat itself.
Jessie blinked in surprise, then leaned closer, studying her. “Are you hiding something from me p>
“What would I even hide?” Gracie said with a soft laugh. “I’m not married to Theo this time, and he has no reason to come after you. Don’t overthink it. Just get ready for your birthday p>
“Nothing at all?” Jessie still looked unsure. She could feel there was more. “If you don’t want to talk about it, fine,” she sighed. “At the party, I’ll introduce you to my brother. He’s a good guy, just… a little clueless sometimes. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have stayed friends with Theo for so long p>

She wrinkled her nose at the thought. “If you can help him cut ties with Theo, that would be amazing p>
“He’s that close to Theo?” Gracie’s brows tightened. “Then your family’s past problems must be tied to him too p>
She suddenly sat up straighter. “A lot happened in the last life, and I never got the chance to tell you. You died before I did, but before that, your whole family had already gone bankrupt. I always thought it was just misfortune, but now… it seems like Theo might have been behind it p>
“My family went bankrupt? What about my parents and my brother? Were they okay?” Jessie’s face drained of color.
Gracie shook her head slowly. “By then, I was already locked up in Theo’s basement, so I couldn’t find out what really happened. But after you died… no one in your family reported you missing p>
“They didn’t report me missing…” Jessie echoed in disbelief. “Does that mean… they were gone too p>
“It’s only a guess,” Gracie said gently. “But we still have time to change things. You should stay close to your family for now so you can react quickly if anything feels off p>
“Alright,” Jessie said with determination. “I’ll stay home tonight. For now, let me drop you off. You’ll probably get good news soon p>
“I really hope so,” Gracie replied with a small smile. “If I can get custody of Reyna, I’ll finally keep my promise to Jeffrey p>
They both stepped out of the apartment together. Gracie insisted on driving herself and turned down Jessie’s offer.
Jessie watched the SUV disappear down the street, her expression tight with worry. Then she flagged down a taxi and headed straight back to the hospital.
