“Jessie really saved us a lot of trouble. Once we put pressure on the hospital, they fired him immediately,” Brayden said. “He won’t show his face again p>
“That’s a relief,” Gracie said with a firm nod. “It’s better than helping him cover anything up. Someone like that shouldn’t be treating anyone p>
She stood slowly. “Jessie’s birthday party is this weekend. Do you think you’ll be able to go p>
“This weekend?” Brayden shook his head. “Probably not. I’ll be working late every day. Two important projects are running at the same time p>
“Alright, I get it.” Gracie stepped out of the study, her brows drawn together in a tight line.
He had obviously shifted the conversation on purpose, refusing to touch the real issue.
“Jessie… you really don’t listen,” she muttered under her breath as she walked. “I told you I can handle things p>
If her friend was still uneasy, she figured she needed to calm her friend’s fears first; she had to show her that Brayden wasn’t a threat.

In another house, Theo sat in the living room, staring emotionlessly as he held the phone to his ear.
On the second-floor landing, Ellie watched him nervously, gripping the railing, her whole body trembling.
“I heard you. Stop complaining. If you messed up, don’t pin it on my plan,” Theo said angrily into the phone. He ended the call abruptly, then spun around, catching Ellie staring.
She flinched, pressing herself back against the wall, breath quickening.
“Ellie… why not come down? Why hide up there and listen in?” Theo spoke gently, but the sound only made her colder inside.
Her legs felt numb, but she forced herself down the steps. She stopped in the middle of the hall, keeping her distance. “You were on the phone. I didn’t want to interrupt you p>
“Come sit beside me.” He motioned to the couch.
A shiver ran through her again, but she obeyed, sitting beside him.
He didn’t wait even a second before his arm wrapped around her, pulling her into a tight embrace that made her heart sink.
“Theo… it was Lia who messed everything up. If she hadn’t acted so stupidly, none of this would’ve been exposed. It really wasn’t my fault this time p>
“I know,” he said softly, brushing her hair back with his fingertips. “But you shouldn’t push all the blame away. If you had kept a closer eye on things, it wouldn’t have turned into this. Do you understand p>
“I understand. It won’t happen again,” Ellie whispered, nodding quickly.
Theo let out a low chuckle. “Relax. I’m not going to hurt you. I heard Gracie was promoted to vice president at Sullivan Group. Since you’ve been sitting at home, why not join her there? You’re part of the Sullivan family too. Whatever she has, you should have as well p>
“What?” Ellie’s head flew up, startled. “You want me to work at my dad’s company p>
“Yes.” Theo’s smile softened, his eyes full of affection. “You’ve always helped me. Now it’s my turn to help you. I won’t let anyone take what’s meant for you p>
