Chapter 380
Chapter 380:
Outside Radiant Technologies headquarters, a sharp screech tore through the air as a black sedan braked outside the building. Eaton climbed out, straightening his jacket before striding toward the glass doors.
Inside the lobby, a restless crowd surged around the reception area, their chatter echoing off the high ceiling. He slowed, briefly scanning the commotion, when Phoebe hurried over with a tablet tucked to her chest.
“Mr. Holt, did you need something?” she inquired, lowering her voice as she reached him.
“Theo mentioned Gracie asked him to pick something up, but he couldn’t get away,” Eaton explained, his tone clipped as he glanced past her. “So I’m here in his place. I’d like to see Gracie p>
With a flicker of unease, Phoebe cast a glance toward the office.
Gracie had slipped out two hours ago, leaving firm instructions: no matter who came looking, she was deep in lab work and absolutely unavailable.
“I’m afraid she is occupied in the lab right now,” Phoebe said gently, clasping her tablet a little tighter. “She’s in the middle of a critical round of research and can’t step out at the moment p>
Eaton didn’t so much as blink. Instead, he settled into a lounge chair with deliberate ease. “That’s all right. I’ll stay right here. I just need to get that item from her p>
Phoebe forced a polite smile as she offered, “What exactly do you need? I can bring it to you myself p>
Eaton shook his head immediately. “There’s no need. Theo said it’s something important, and he told me I have to speak with Gracie face-to-face p>
A deepening crease formed between his brows, a clear sign he sensed something off.
His gaze caught the way Phoebe’s eyes flicked aside, restless and guilty, and unease tightened in his chest.

“Are you trying to get rid of me on purpose?” he pressed, scanning the quiet hallway beyond her shoulder. “I’m honestly starting to worry something’s happened to Gracie. If you keep blocking me, I might have no choice but to call the police p>
The moment he mentioned the police, Phoebe’s complexion drained, her breath catching as panic flashed across her face. “Come on, are you saying Gracie isn’t safe in her own company p>
“Then let me in,” he demanded, taking a deliberate step closer. “I need to see her myself before I believe anything you say.” His voice dropped into a deeper, warning register. “What exactly are you hiding? That’s the third time you’ve looked toward the office since we started talking! Just tell me the truth—Gracie isn’t here, is she p>
“You’ve got it wrong!” Phoebe shot back, though her voice thinned with panic. Her fingers curled tight against her palms as she scrambled for an excuse she didn’t have.
A low, icy laugh slid out of Eaton as he brushed past her shoulder, striding into the office without waiting for permission.
Phoebe, startled, darted forward and clutched his arm, her voice tightening. “What are you doing? Are you trying to force your way in? I’ll call security to take you out of here p>
A steady voice drifted from the doorway before Eaton could respond.
“Mr. Holt? I didn’t think I’d run into you. Are you here looking for my wife too?” Brayden stepped inside with composed authority, his sharp gaze sweeping over the tense pair. “What exactly is happening? Are you intending to cause a scene in the lobby? That’s not a very dignified look p>
Relief washed over Phoebe when she spotted Brayden, and she finally released her grip on Eaton.
Eaton brushed a hand over his crumpled suit jacket, irritation flickering across his face before he forced himself back into composure and met Brayden’s gaze. “Mr. Stanley, I came to pick something up p>
“Oh, really?” Brayden drawled, his tone light but edged with frost. “Exactly how important could it be for you to drag yourself over here in person?” His lips curved, but the smile never reached his eyes. “I had no idea Holt Group and Radiant Technologies were doing business p>
Catching the edge in Brayden’s tone, Eaton rushed to explain, “Theo sent me over. Maybe you haven’t heard about it yet p>
