Sophie went red instantly. “I did not! Don’t flatter yourself. I only noticed just now when I came in.” Her tone was defensive, far too quick.
She slammed the door shut, locking it with a sharp click. Still, every few moments she would sneak a glance out through the glass, checking whether Adrian had turned his head.
But he didn’t. Though he could tease mercilessly with his words, when it came to action, he never crossed the line. That was just him.
After her shower, Sophie came out wrapped in a bathrobe, still a little tense, walking carefully as though she didn’t want to make a sound.
She thought Adrian would still be facing away. But the moment she reached the bed, he turned his head toward her—almost like he had been waiting.
He was sprawled across the bed in a lazy pose, one arm propping up his head, his long legs stretched out in an easy cross. The robe he wore hung loosely open, showing the hard lines of his chest and the faint taper of his abs.
He looked relaxed, yet the way he lay there carried a quiet temptation, as if he were waiting for her to come closer.
Sophie’s heart gave a jolt, but she forced her composure, keeping her face calm. With a steady breath, she lowered her gaze, pretending not to notice him, and sat quickly on the edge of the bed. “It’s late,” she said briskly. “We should get some sleep. We’ve got to head back tomorrow p>
She reached for the lamp, but before she could switch it off, Adrian caught her wrist.
His touch was warm but firm enough that she couldn’t pull away.
