Chapter 167
Chapter 167:
Sophie answered politely. “Juliet suddenly had to meet an important client, so she asked me to handle this instead p>
“If you didn’t feel like it, you could’ve just turned it down,” Adrian said casually.
That caught Sophie off guard. She blinked, unsure why he would even say something like that. “Mr. Knight, really, I don’t mind. It’s no trouble for me at all p>
Adrian was at a loss for words.
From the sofa, Simon suddenly let out a loud laugh.
Sophie glanced his way in confusion.
Trying to brush it off, he quickly waved his hand, though his shoulders were still shaking from trying not to laugh. “Don’t mind me. Something silly popped into my head. You two carry on—pretend I’m not even here p>
He lifted a magazine to hide his face, but muffled chuckles kept slipping through.
Sophie grew even more puzzled.
“Just ignore him,” Adrian said smoothly, pointing at Simon’s head. “He banged it in the door this morning p>

Sophie’s eyes widened with worry. “Oh no! Is it bad? Shouldn’t he see a doctor p>
Adrian shook his head. “No need. A good laugh will fix him p>
“Ah, I see… okay p>
Behind the magazine, Simon’s face twisted in outrage. He wanted to yell back at Adrian but only dared to curse silently in his head.
Adrian, meanwhile, lowered his eyes and gave his attention back to the document. The office fell quiet, and only the soft shuffle of paper could be heard.
At first, Sophie stood straight, staring at the shiny floor. But after a while, her eyes couldn’t help but wander to the man behind the desk. His head was slightly bent, a few strands of hair brushing over his sharp brows. There was something in his intense focus that was strangely magnetic, making it hard to look away.
Sophie didn’t dare stare outright. Instead, she kept sneaking small side glances, one after another. Even so, she couldn’t stop herself from marveling silently that the founder was more handsome than any movie star she had ever seen.
But still—was he really taking this long with the document? Could it be that complicated?
Simon, perched on the sofa nearby, practically rolled his eyes in exasperation. With Adrian’s usual speed, the reading would have been done ages ago.
He knew exactly what was happening. Adrian was probably just pretending so he could spend more time near Sophie. The man was impossible.
Even as he seemed fully absorbed in the papers, Adrian kept subtle tabs on Sophie from the corner of his eye. He noticed the way she shifted from one foot to the other, trying to appear composed, and his eyes caught the heels she was wearing today.
“You can sit down if you want,” he offered.
“Oh, no, Mr. Knight, I’m fine standing!” Sophie responded quickly, shaking her head.
How could she lounge while the president was buried in work? That would have been unthinkable.
Adrian pressed his lips together, realizing the delay couldn’t go on any longer. With a smooth motion, he signed the document and handed it back to her. “Done. All set p>
“Thank you, Mr. Knight,” Sophie replied, taking the document with both hands.
As he handed it over, Adrian’s arm moved, and the sleeve of his dark shirt slipped a little.
She caught a glimpse of a red-string bracelet tied around his wrist, with a small stone on it.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She leaned closer to see it, but Adrian quickly moved his hand, and the sleeve covered it again, leaving her unsure if she had really seen it.
“Anything else?” he asked as he noticed her pause.
“No, nothing!” Sophie exclaimed.
Holding the document tight, she practically ran out of the office, trying to shake off the whirlwind of thoughts racing through her mind.
