Chapter 220
Chapter 220:
“I can explain. Perhaps we shared a classroom in preschool, but I never got close to her. That was a lifetime ago, and I honestly don’t remember a single detail!” Adrian said.
“Is that so?” Sophie narrowed her eyes, refusing to let it go. “Because Daisy seems to recall everything. She painted you as some little knight in shining armor, always jumping in when kids picked on her—even throwing punches to keep her safe. Sweet story, isn’t it p>
A laugh slipped from Adrian, half-irritated and half-entertained. “So what—you won’t even let your husband have been kind as a boy? I’d have done the same for anyone, no matter who they were p>
Sophie’s lips pushed into a sulky pout, though his point wasn’t easy to argue against. If Adrian had stood by and ignored a girl being bullied, she would have thought far less of him.

“Well, don’t get too comfortable—there’s more!” she said.
“Alright then, let’s hear it p>
“She claimed that when you were kids, you two wore matching outfits p>
The very thought made Adrian say, “Ridiculous. That never happened p>
“Oh, she described them down to the detail—sailor costumes. Hers was pink, yours was blue p>
A crease formed between Adrian’s brows as he searched his memory.
“Hold on.” His eyes lit with sudden recognition. “She must mean the preschool talent show! Every child wore those. Boys in blue, girls in pink. How does that translate to matching couple costumes p>
Sophie gave a sharp little laugh, cutting him a knowing look. “And weren’t you the one insisting you couldn’t remember anything from that time? Strange how the details come rushing back now p>
Her teasing only made Adrian chuckle, amused by her stubborn streak. A gentle hand rose to her forehead as he tapped it with a tender smile. “Remember who warned me about pointless jealousy? No unnecessary jealousy allowed, right p>
Sophie turned her face away and whispered through tightly pressed lips, “I am not jealous p>
“Is that so?” Adrian leaned in, lowering his head until he could playfully inhale near her neck. “Then why does jealousy smell so strong on you, huh p>
Sophie twisted in discomfort beneath his touch, caught between laughter and shame. With all the force she could gather, she shoved at him. “I don’t want to talk to you anymore p>
Right after that, she made an effort to climb off his lap. Adrian, however, refused to loosen his grip. His arms only closed tighter, refusing to let her slip away.
As his chin grazed against her hair, his tone shifted to something gentler, carrying weight. “Sweetheart, if you’re jealous, it only makes me glad. It shows me you actually care p>
After a brief pause, he continued, “I need to set the record straight. There has never been anything between Daisy Ross and me. There isn’t now, and there never will be. She has never mattered to me in that way. From start to finish, Sophie, my heart belongs only to you p>
Those words rang with such honesty that much of the sting in Sophie’s chest began to ease. In her heart, Sophie trusted the depth of Adrian’s devotion. Still, the image of another woman cherishing him so fiercely—sharing childhood moments she could never claim, and having seen his face before the scars—stirred up a strange, unshakable jealousy she couldn’t quite name or suppress.
Adrian noticed the faint change in her mood and bent close, brushing his lips across her forehead, then the curve of her nose, before finding her mouth and holding there. His tone dropped, low and persuasive.
“Forget about anyone else. While I was gone, did you miss me at all?” His question came between tender, unhurried kisses. The warmth of her skin and the way she fit against him only fueled his hunger, making it impossible to pull away.
