Chapter 125
Chapter 125:
Adrian had always thought his wife was pretty, but this… this was something else.
Normally, Sophie kept things simple—light makeup, jeans, and a blouse, the kind of beauty that was quiet and natural, like a garden flower opening on a calm morning. But now, she looked so dazzling he found himself staring.
The soft blue dress fit her like it was made just for her, and her makeup brought out every sharp detail of her face, making her glow in a way that was impossible to look away from. The fine jewelry on her almost felt unnecessary. She was glowing all on her own, like a rose in full bloom.
Sophie felt his stare linger on her a little too long.
Her cheeks warmed, and she fiddled with the hem of her gown as she walked toward him. “Do I look alright?” she asked.
Adrian didn’t answer right away, which only made her more anxious. She glanced up, eyes wide, as if afraid he didn’t approve.
That snapped him out of it. He set the magazine aside and closed the distance between them in a few easy strides.
However, he didn’t reply with words. Instead, he bent toward her, brushing a careful kiss by her ear, making her shiver instantly.
“You look gorgeous,” he whispered.

Her ears turned pink. “You mean it p>
Adrian leaned back just enough to meet her eyes again, mischief sparking in his gaze. “For a moment, I thought some world-famous star had walked in p>
Her face heated even more at his teasing words, and she gave him a playful slap. “You charmer! Always finding ways to sweet-talk me p>
Adrian chuckled, then, with a mock formality that made his eyes sparkle, he offered her his arm like a gentleman straight out of an old movie. “So tell me, my lady, may I have the honor of being your date tonight p>
Sophie couldn’t help smiling, her nerves melting away as she slid her arm through his. “Sure thing, Mr. Knight p>
The party was straight out of a dream. Crystal chandeliers glittered like a sky full of stars, a champagne fountain towered in the center of the hall, and a red carpet rolled across the marble floor. Servers drifted through the crowd with trays of sparkling glasses and bite-sized delicacies, while the soft notes of a saxophone curled through the air.
Everywhere Sophie looked, there was something to marvel at. Celebrities, designers, and socialites filled the room, each dressed to perfection, their jewels sparkling under the lights as they mingled.
At Adrian’s side, she felt a little stiff at first, but curiosity quickly took over. Her eyes darted around like an excited kid at a carnival.
She tugged gently on his sleeve and whispered, “Wait, is that Jessica Lane? The award-winning actress? Wow, she looks even more graceful in person p>
“Mm.” Adrian gave a half-hearted glance, clearly unimpressed.
“And look over there!” Sophie added, excitement bubbling in her tone. “That’s Zack Tanner, the singer! I used to play his song Goodnight Whispers every single day when I was in high school p>
Before Adrian could get a word in, Sophie was already on to the next. “Oh my gosh, that’s Ryan Cole! He was my childhood crush! He still looks so good, like he hasn’t aged at all p>
Adrian’s eyes moved to the man, his face stiffening. “So you’re really into him, huh p>
“Of course,” she admitted with a grin. “He was amazing in Silent Plains. And honestly, he’s just so handsome p>
The moment the words left her mouth, she realized she had gone too far. She snuck a sideways glance at Adrian. His lips were pressed into a thin line. He didn’t look amused.
“What’s wrong? Getting jealous?” she asked.
“No,” Adrian replied fast, his voice clipped and cold.
Sophie rolled her eyes. “Come on, he’s in his forties p>
Adrian wasn’t letting it slide. “So what you’re saying is… you’ve got a thing for good-looking guys p>
Sophie muttered under her breath, “Isn’t that kind of human nature? Who doesn’t appreciate someone good-looking p>
Adrian snorted. “Right. Guess I’m not much to look at then. Must be pretty embarrassing being stuck with me p>
