Chapter 94
Chapter 94:
Rooted to the spot, Sophie watched as Addie draped herself over the car window, all playful smiles and flirtatious chatter aimed at the man inside.
The scene sparked a jarring sense of déjà vu. Images from a night not long ago flashed through Sophie’s mind—she and Sarah, tipsy outside the bar, catching sight of Addie sweet-talking Adrian through the rolled-down glass.
That night, she had called his name, hoping he would acknowledge her. Instead, Adrian met her eyes with cold indifference and drove away as if she were a stranger.
What confused her most was how, not long after, Adrian reappeared and swept her up with the same easy charm, as if the earlier slight had never happened. For a moment, she had allowed herself to believe his affection was real.
None of it made sense. If Adrian still had his fortune and status, why go through the trouble of pretending to be broke, living with her in a rental, shopping for groceries, washing dishes—playing the part of a loving boyfriend scraping by? Was it all some kind of elaborate escape from his old life? Did he simply want to experience love on the other side of privilege, just for the thrill?

Lost in the swirl of questions, Sophie snapped back to reality as Addie slid into the passenger seat, tossed the group a triumphant wave, and the red sports car slipped away into traffic.
Amy, still nearby, clicked her tongue and stammered, “So he wasn’t really disowned after all… Huh. Hey, where are you going p>
Just then, Sarah seized Sophie’s arm and dragged her toward the curb where a taxi sat idling. “Come on—don’t just stand there. Get in p>
Before Sophie could protest, she was bundled into the backseat. The door had barely closed when Sarah leaned forward and shouted, “Driver, follow that red sports car—don’t lose them p>
A grin spread across the driver’s face as he stomped on the accelerator, chasing after Addie as if the whole city had turned into a movie set.
Gripping the back of the seat for balance, Sophie glanced at Sarah, completely at a loss. “Sarah, seriously—what are we doing right now p>
Sarah’s eyes sparkled with a mix of outrage and thrill. “We’re catching them red-handed, that’s what! Don’t forget, you’re his wife. You have every right to confront your husband and his side chick p>
Words got stuck in Sophie’s throat, leaving her silent. Anger bubbled inside her, but beneath it, a sharper pain pulsed—a deep, raw hurt that made it hard to breathe.
A new fear crept in, too. Deep down, she knew that if Adrian really was cheating, she would have to face the truth. No more illusions, no more pretending things could go back to how they were.
When did she become so afraid to find out?
