Chapter 203
Chapter 203:
Adrian froze for a moment, unsure how to handle such a formal response. To Sophie, the only thing that had connected them before was the design plans. With the project finished, he could not think of anything else worth saying. Trying to force casual conversation would only make him sound like he wanted something more.
He finally came up with an idea. “Have you been working on any new designs p>
Sophie blinked in surprise, not expecting Mr. K to show such genuine curiosity about her work. A small sense of pride crept in at his interest. But most of her time had been swallowed up by Sadie’s project, leaving her without fresh ideas to show him.
“I’m sorry, Mr. K. I’ve been tied up with a custom order lately, so there are no new drafts right now,” she replied truthfully.
Adrian refused to let the exchange end so quickly. After sitting with his phone for a few seconds, he typed again. “Your earlier designs would be fine too p>
He quickly added, “I honestly admire the way you approach design.” He told himself he just needed a reason to keep her talking.
Sophie hesitated before deciding. Since Sadie’s project had been canceled, the plans were no longer tied to a client. Sharing them with someone who valued her work seemed harmless. Without overthinking, she forwarded the design files.
His reply arrived almost instantly. “Has anyone taken this design yet? If it’s still available, I’d like to have it p>
The message made Sophie’s face brighten. This was not the reaction she had expected at all. She had assumed the design she poured her heart into would never see the light of day. To her, every creation felt like her own child, and she longed for them to find a place in the world.
Filled with excitement, she texted back. “Are you serious? That’s amazing news! Please give me a moment. I’ll confirm it with the director right now p>
Adrian noticed how lively Sophie sounded, and a smile cracked his lips. At last, there was a subject they could share, giving him a valid excuse to keep their conversation alive.

He leaned into the moment and struck up light talk. “I heard you were promoted to lead designer. That’s quite an achievement p>
“You even know about that, Mr. K?” Sophie was surprised.
“I only learned about it through your company’s website,” he said, making his reason sound natural.
“That makes sense.” Sophie thought back to their earlier project together and asked with interest, “By the way, I never asked before—how do you like the ring you ordered? Is the size just right p>
“It fits perfectly.” After a pause, he slipped in another remark. “You put so much effort into its design, and it shows. It’s just unfortunate that a ring of that quality didn’t end up on your husband’s finger p>
Sophie’s tongue faltered at his words. What reason could this influential figure have to be so concerned about her husband?
She gave a light laugh. “Thanks for worrying about that. I actually ended up making him a new one later on,” she said in a casual tone.
“Really? It sounds like you two get along wonderfully. I can’t help but feel a bit jealous.” Adrian leaned into her words with a knowing remark.
Her lips tightened as she stared at the glowing screen. Wonderful? If only he knew they hadn’t spoken properly in days. Still, she kept her reply short, unwilling to expose her private life to a client. “Yeah, that’s right p>
Adrian’s brows lifted in surprise. So she actually told people their marriage was fine? The thought eased some of the irritation that had been brewing in him.
“How is your husband like?” he asked next, eager to know how she would describe him.
The question left her faltering. Sophie typed a few words, erased them, then tried again until she finally settled on a reply. “He’s decent. A genuinely good person p>
The phrase “good person” lingered on Adrian’s screen, and the corner of his mouth twitched. At least she hadn’t voiced any dissatisfaction. His spirits lifted slightly, and he couldn’t hold back from slipping in a word of guidance. “If that’s the case, then make sure you treat him right p>
Sophie’s brows knit in puzzlement. Was Mr. K seriously using this chat to preach to her? Why did he suddenly feel the need to give advice?
Letting out a faint sigh, she stared at the screen. Maybe this was just how men were—always quick to defend one of their own.
Before she could dwell on it, Juliet’s message cut through. “I almost forgot to tell you—there’s a wealthy lady who came across the Lotus Elegance collection and already placed an order for it p>
