Chapter 34
Chapter 34:
“Already did,” Simon replied with a satisfied grin.
Adrian sent Sophie a quick text, telling her something had come up and he would be home late. Then he drove to the address Simon had given him.
But the second he stepped inside the place, he stopped dead in his tracks. The lights were low, and waiters in fitted shirts showed off their sculpted chests.
This wasn’t some regular bar. It was a high-end gigolo club.
“Simon!” Adrian growled under his breath, his jaw tight as his knuckles popped.
Right on cue, his phone buzzed. “Sorry, man! Mom always comes here to drool over eye candy when she’s mad at Dad. Just cover for me this once, yeah? I’ll owe you big p>
Adrian swore under his breath. Every cell in his body wanted to turn around and walk right out, but the thought of Maura sitting in a place like this, alone, kept his feet planted. With a sharp exhale, he pulled out the mask he always carried and slipped it on before moving deeper inside.
Meanwhile, Sophie was practically glowing. Clearing her name and landing a promotion had lifted a mountain off her shoulders.
Sarah clung to her arm, practically bouncing. “Girl, this calls for the biggest celebration ever p>
Sophie gave her a grateful smile. “Honestly, if it weren’t for you, I’d still be running in circles p>
You𝗋 𝖽𝖺𝗶𝘭𝗒 𝗱𝗈s𝘦 𝘰𝖿 𝘯о𝗏е𝗅𝘀 𝘰𝗇.с𝗈𝗆
Sarah smirked and flicked her hair dramatically. “Then tonight’s on me. No arguments. I’m taking you out for something unforgettable p>
“Fine.” Sophie laughed. “Where are we going p>
“You’ll see.” Sarah pressed a finger to her lips. “No spoilers p>
Sophie hesitated. “I should at least text Adrian to see if he wants to p>
Before she could finish, Sarah snatched her phone with lightning speed. “Uh-uh. Ladies’ night. No husbands allowed p>
Just as Sophie was about to argue, a message from Adrian popped up, saying he would be home late. Relief washed over her, and she allowed Sarah to pull her along without protest.
Half an hour later, Sophie found herself staring at a neon-lit entrance that screamed trouble. Her brows shot up. “Sarah, what kind of place is this p>
Sarah’s grin was all mischief. “Gigolo club p>
Sophie nearly dropped her bag. “What? No way! I’m married p>
“Oh, relax.” Sarah tugged her inside with zero shame. “I’ll be the one having fun. You just sit there, sip a drink, and be my backup. Your husband will never know p>
After much insistence from Sarah, Sophie finally gave in and let herself be dragged inside.
As they walked past a half-open private room, her eyes drifted in and she stopped cold.
Sitting inside, with his usual mask on, was Adrian. A sophisticated middle-aged woman clung to his arm, urging him to drink.
Sophie’s heart sank. This was the same man who had just texted her that he would be late.
