Chapter 20
Chapter 20:
Even though she and Adrian had barely known each other then, they had both said “I do.” That was their promise.
Then her eyes dropped to the ring on her finger. It wasn’t just expensive—it carried Adrian’s mother’s blessing, something priceless. Meanwhile, Adrian had worn a plain band, one hurriedly prepared by the Barnes family.
An idea hit her like lightning. Her design would be a ring—something to match the one on her finger, something that symbolized a promise.
With that thought, her pencil finally touched the page, sketching confident, deliberate strokes.
Minutes blurred into hours. One by one, others finished their designs, handed them in, and slipped out of the room. Sophie, however, worked steadily until at last she set her pencil down, satisfaction warming her chest.
She studied her design, then got up to hand it in. But before she could take a step, a foot shot out into the aisle.
“Sorry—” she started, only to be cut off by a sharp voice.
“Watch where you’re going!” Lila hissed, her eyes red and wild.
Sophie’s gaze flicked toward Lila’s desk. Her sheet was nearly blank, covered only with a few desperate scribbles.

Sophie gave her a slow, knowing smile. “Seems like you’re not just clumsy with your hands but with your legs too p>
The words made Lila’s face twist with rage. With a harsh snap, the pencil broke in her grip.
Unbothered, Sophie walked past her without sparing another glance. She placed her design neatly on Edgar’s desk, then left the hall, cool and calm.
Outside the meeting room, Sarah was pacing anxiously. The second she saw Sophie, she rushed over. “How was it p>
Sophie dropped her shoulders, her face full of fake gloom.
Sarah immediately wrapped an arm around her. “Don’t worry. It’s fine. What matters is you tried your best p>
But then Sophie’s eyes sparkled as she lifted her face with a cheeky grin. “Fooled you! I crushed it p>
“You brat!” Sarah lunged to tickle her sides, and both burst into laughter.
When they finally calmed down, Sarah leaned close and whispered like she was sharing top-secret intel. “Guess what? I heard the founder of Pinnacle Group is actually here today, up in the executive office on the top floor. Want to sneak a peek p>
Sophie’s eyes lit up instantly, only to dim just as fast. “But we can’t get up there p>
Sarah flicked her forehead. “Who said anything about going up? All we have to do is wait near the lobby. Even the big shots have to leave through the front doors eventually p>
That made Sophie’s excitement flare right back up. She nodded eagerly. There was no way she was missing a chance to catch a glimpse of the legendary founder.
