Chapter 174
Chapter 174:
A few taps on Adrian’s phone, and not long after, a blazing hot pink sports car screeched to a stop right in front of them.
Out jumped the valet, offering the keys with a bow of respect. A faint twitch crossed Adrian’s brow as he took in the flashy vehicle, clearly not impressed.
He opened the passenger door and gestured for Sophie to get inside. “Get in p>
“Thank you, Mr. Knight.” Sophie slid into the seat.

Her jaw dropped as she took in the bubblegum-colored interior, her mind spinning with disbelief. Was this really the kind of car Mr. Knight drove?
“Where do you live?” Adrian asked, his hand resting on the wheel, his gaze fixed on the road.
Sophie gave him her address, then hesitated before speaking again. “I truly appreciate what you did back there, Mr. Knight. I can’t imagine what would have happened if you hadn’t stepped in p>
“There’s no need for gratitude,” Adrian responded. “It’s my fault. I should’ve caught a snake like him before he slithered into the company p>
“Absolutely not!” Sophie said, shaking her head hard. “This was never on you. No one can predict things like this, and Edgar covered his tracks too well. You couldn’t have known p>
Adrian kept his eyes on the road and stayed quiet. An easy silence fell over the car, but Sophie’s nerves refused to settle. She pressed back into the seat and stole glances at him from the corner of her eye.
That red string bracelet—Sophie had to confirm if it was the one she had given Adrian. His sleeve sat snug against his wrist, hiding it completely. She couldn’t check without drawing attention.
The memory of him stepping in front of her still played in her mind. For just a breath, Sophie could have sworn Adrian was right there again.
This outrageous pink car, though, ruined the picture entirely. She tried but failed to imagine Adrian willingly driving something so flashy.
“We’ve arrived.” Adrian’s calm voice pulled her back to the present.
“Huh? Oh! Right! Thank you, Mr. Knight!” Sophie blinked, quickly freed herself from the seatbelt, and hopped out.
Standing outside the car, she leaned down toward the window, her expression suddenly earnest. “Really, I mean it—thank you for today. Please drive safely p>
Adrian dipped his chin in quiet acknowledgment. A second later, the sports car rumbled and shot forward, disappearing into the busy road.
A shaky breath slipped out of Sophie as the weight of the day finally hit her. Dragging her feet, she made her way toward the apartment entrance.
Halfway there, something on her shoulders stopped her in her tracks. Looking down, she froze.
Oh no.
Adrian’s suit jacket was still hanging over her like a blanket.
Groaning, Sophie tapped her forehead with the heel of her hand. “How did I forget this p>
Another sigh escaped her lips. “Might as well get it cleaned before figuring out how to hand it back p>
Once she reached her penthouse, Sophie headed for the washer with the jacket in hand. Instead, she hesitated, pulling it close and breathing in the faint cedar scent. The smell hit just like before—familiar, unmistakable.
Just to be sure, Sophie tore through Adrian’s closet, grabbing an armful of shirts and giving each one a sniff. Nothing. Every single shirt only carried the sharp, clean smell of detergent.
Could this be some trendy cologne everyone was using now?
Dropping onto the couch, Sophie sat there in a fog, eyes unfocused. Her thoughts twisted and tangled until Adrian’s face began to overlap with the founder’s, their images nearly merging.
That was exactly what Adrian saw when he came home. There she was, clutching a pile of his clothes, lifting them to her face as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Like a total creep.
