Chapter 43
Chapter 43:
Sophie recoiled, snatching her hand away as if David’s touch burned. “Have you completely lost your mind?” she snapped, eyes blazing.
Reality hit her with full force; she had wasted three years on this man and never seen his true colors until now.
Sophie bit down her revulsion, her voice turning to frost. “My husband and I are happy. There’s nothing you could offer that I’d ever want again p>
David’s lips curled in a sneer. “Happy? After just one month? You expect me to believe you’re in love with some disfigured loser? You’d rather kiss his ruined face than stay with me after everything we had? Or is he just that good in bed p>
Her patience snapped. She slapped him, the sound echoing through the room.
David’s eyes went wild, one hand flying to his stinging cheek. “He gets to touch you, but I don’t? Do you have any idea how hard it was for me to wait for you all those years p>
Before she could pull away, he lunged and clamped his fingers around her wrist.
“Let me go!” Sophie kicked him hard, connecting with his knee.

David let out a sharp cry, and his hand slipped away, but fury flared in his eyes as he lunged forward and grabbed Sophie by the throat. “You shameless bitch!” he shouted.
Sophie’s sight began to blur, and a low, relentless buzzing rang through her ears. Desperate, she clawed at his hands, drawing blood as she tried to pry him off. His hold only tightened.
David leaned in, his breath hot against her ear. “Don’t fight me, Sophie. I’ll show you how much you’ve missed. You’ll forget all about that ugly man once I have you. Trust me, I’ll treat you better than he ever could p>
His voice, thick with twisted longing, sent a wave of cold dread through her.
Sophie’s world started to swim, strength seeping from her body as everything faded.
Just as the edges of her vision began to go black, the lounge door crashed open, banging hard against the wall.
A tall silhouette blocked the doorway, the faint glow catching the edge of a black mask.
Sophie’s voice was little more than a whisper, barely there. “Adrian p>
David whipped around, caught off guard; he never even saw the fist coming. Adrian’s punch landed square on his jaw, sending David sprawling across the floor.
Gasping, Sophie slumped to the ground, one hand pressed to her bruised throat.
Adrian dropped to his knees in front of her, placing himself between Sophie and any threat, his body a solid shield. When he saw the angry red marks on her neck, his eyes darkened, barely controlled fury swirling beneath the surface.
“We’re going to a hospital,” he said, his voice steely and soft. He slid an arm beneath her knees, the other steady behind her back, and swept her up without effort.
On the way out, Adrian’s foot shot out and caught David square in the ribs, drawing a pained groan.
A stronger part of him wanted to beat David senseless, but the feel of Sophie’s trembling breath reminded him of what mattered most.
Sophie clung to him, head buried against his chest, drinking in every breath of fresh air.
Just as he reached the door, her hand tugged weakly at his collar. “Hold on p>
Adrian stopped in his tracks, his voice taut with worry. “What? Are you afraid I went too far p>
She shook her head, fighting for breath. “My bracelet… I need it p>
Adrian gave her a searching look, then carefully set her down on a nearby sofa.
He scanned the floor, then pried the red-string bracelet from David’s limp hand.
Once he had it, Adrian straightened and delivered a merciless kick to David’s groin.
David doubled over in agony, unable to make a sound.
Without a flicker of emotion, Adrian placed the bracelet gently in Sophie’s palm, then scooped her back into his arms. “Alright. Now we’re leaving p>
