Chapter 10
Chapter 10:
That simple nickname shattered her defenses. Tears spilled freely as she bit down on her lip, trying to muffle the sob that escaped. “Mom p>
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart,” Zola’s voice wavered, hesitant but filled with longing. “Back then, I had my reasons. Can you ever forgive me p>
Sophie’s throat burned. “I forgive you!” The words ripped out of her, shaky and raw. “I forgive everything p>
On the other end, Zola’s voice softened. “Then… can I come to Zhatwell? To see you? In a few days p>
“Of course! Please come,” Sophie replied with a shaky smile, holding the paper tight like it might disappear.
Even after leaving the villa, she was still in a daze, caught between joy and disbelief.
Meanwhile, back inside, the mood was very different.

Alice gripped Michelle’s sleeve, her face twisted in anger. “Mom! You really tracked down Sophie’s mother p>
Michelle took an unhurried sip of her coffee, her lips curling into a knowing smile. “Patience, sweetie. The real show’s just about to begin p>
Right after Sophie left, Adrian made a quick call.
About thirty minutes later, Neil Wade, his assistant, showed up at Sophie’s tiny apartment with an armful of shopping bags. “Mr. Knight, I brought your clothes. Where do you want them p>
“Drop them on the floor. I’ll sort them out later,” Adrian replied offhandedly.
Neil bent down to set the bags aside but froze when a man in rubber gloves stepped out of the kitchen. He almost dropped everything he was holding.
Was that… his boss? The same man who hated mess and couldn’t stand germs?
Yet here he was, shirt stained, sleeves rolled up, awkwardly stacking dishes and shoving them into the sink.
The sight made Neil uneasy. He couldn’t just stand by and watch his boss do housework.
Clearing his throat, he stepped forward carefully. “Mr. Knight, would you like me to give you a hand p>
“No.” Adrian’s answer was flat and firm.
However, the next second, a soapy plate slipped from his hands and shattered on the floor.
The whole apartment went silent.
But Adrian didn’t even flinch. He looked at the shards and said calmly, “On second thought, I do need your help. Go buy the exact same plate p>
Neil blinked, still struggling to make sense of everything he had just seen.
Not long after he left, the sound of keys jingling came from the door.
Sophie stepped inside, her face lit up with a bright smile. “I’m in such a good mood today, I thought I’d get you an extra p>
But her voice trailed off the moment her gaze fell on the shopping bags piled by the door. Each one carried the logo of a luxury brand, the kind she usually only saw in magazines. Just one item inside could probably cover her rent for months.
