Chapter 114
Chapter 114:
Sophie felt the color drain from her face. Her fingers tightened instinctively around the handbag holding the prized voucher. “What are you plotting now?” she asked evenly, trying to keep calm.
Alice scoffed, tilting her head. “Plotting? Please. I’m just taking back what’s mine. My engagement was meant for me. I’m sick of you parading around as me, using this substitute bride nonsense to manipulate me, and constantly playing games. I can’t risk the Knight family finding out p>
Alice had it all mapped out in her head. Adrian was acting poor and hiding behind a mask, likely testing the kind of woman his wife truly was. Only someone who didn’t care about money or looks deserved to be his partner—and that was a role she could play. If she acted innocent of his real identity, showed no interest in his wealth or appearance, and devoted herself completely to him, she could surely win his heart and make him believe he had found true love.
The only problem now was Sophie, because she was in the way, taking her place.

Sophie eyed Alice’s self-satisfied face, feeling the ridiculousness of it all. “Relax. I’ll do my part and keep you out of it,” she responded.
“Keep me out? Who cares!” Alice snapped, impatience sparking in her tone. “I want it back. Now. Immediately p>
Sophie let out a bitter laugh. “Want it back? Really? Have you even thought about what you’ll tell the Knight family? You refused to marry on the wedding day, and now suddenly you want in p>
Alice smirked like she had the perfect answer. “Explain? Easy. I’ll tell them it was you who tried to steal my spot and marry Adrian for his money and status. The blame falls on you. You’ve always been the scapegoat, haven’t you p>
Sophie stared at her—at that same selfish, infuriatingly familiar face—and felt a chill creep up her spine. Coldly, she said, “I don’t have time for your nonsense p>
She turned to walk away, refusing to waste another second.
But Alice wasn’t done. She stepped in front of her. “So, are you switching or not? Because if you don’t, I’ll go straight to Adrian. I’ll tell him you’re an imposter, that you replaced me to marry him p>
Sophie paused, her gaze darkening. “Go ahead. Try it p>
Alice’s lips curled into a malicious grin. “Oh, and don’t think that just because you’ve slept with him a few times, he actually loves you p>
She chose her words carefully, hitting Sophie’s most sensitive spot. “Wake up. He doesn’t care who the woman is. All he’s ever loved is the name Alice Barnes. As long as someone has that name, he’ll play the part of a devoted husband. You think you’re special p>
Sophie felt her stomach drop. Was Adrian’s care and love only because of the title Mrs. Knight?
Even so, she forced a cold smile. “And weren’t you the one who mocked his scars and ridiculed his poverty? Funny how suddenly you care p>
