Chapter 121
Chapter 121:
Even so, Maisie couldn’t help but feel wary at the thought of Jenessa.
After considering her next actions, she spoke again in that same pitiful tone.
“Ryan, why do you think Jenessa is being so cruel to me? Her actions almost killed me. Now, it might ruin my entire career. I’m so terrified of her p>
She shrank into herself in a bid to appear weak and frightened.
“I don’t think I can bear to be around her again. I don’t want to live under the same roof as her. I just wouldn’t feel safe. Please ask her to move out p>
Maisie perked her ears up in anticipation. She was confident that Ryan would not refuse her request at this point.
To her shock, however, Ryan refused her request without hesitation.
“No. Jenessa will not move out p>
Maisie’s eyes widened in disbelief. By all appearances, she was in an extremely miserable state. Why wouldn’t Ryan drive Jenessa out of the villa after the incident p>
“Why not?” she demanded, her voice turning shrill.
“Why can’t she move out? She pushed me down the stairs! Are you still trying to defend her after what she did to me p>
Maisie’s rapid-fire questions jolted Ryan back to his senses. Only then did he realize that he had expressed his true feelings without thinking.
Pressed by Maisie’s frantic demands, he had no time to ponder why he didn’t want Jenessa to move out. So he smoothed his expression and said, “It’s true that she made a mistake. I will have a word with her. I’ll make sure that she comes and apologizes to you in person p>
Maisie was utterly dumbfounded. What use would she have for Jenessa’s apology? What she wanted was for that woman to be completely gone from her and Ryan’s lives!
Gritting her teeth, Maisie took a deep breath and tried her best not to fly into a rage.
“Ryan,” she said in a petulant tone as she clung to his arm.
“None of us thought that Jenessa was capable of such a thing. What if she becomes even more vicious the next time around? I know you reprimanded her for her actions, so she must hate me thoroughly now. In any case, I just want her to stay as far away from me as possible. I don’t think I’ll ever feel safe around her p>
Your escape begins with gⱯlnσν𝓮ℓs․𝓬𝗈m
Maisie pulled back a little to pin her hopeful gaze on Ryan, but he only remained silent, his face unreadable.
His lack of a reaction made her feel antsy.
“Ryan? Why aren’t you saying anything? Do you not want Jenessa to p>
Maisie’s sharp tone broke through to Ryan’s cloudy mind. It irritated him for some reason.
Of course, Maisie’s injury was all Jenessa’s fault—that much he was clear on. It was just that, even the thought of Jenessa ever leaving him sent him over the edge.
Well, whatever. She wasn’t leaving. He would never allow it.
“Maisie,” Ryan said as calmly as he could, “we can’t send Jenessa away for the time being. All hell will break loose if my grandma finds out that she left. I have no choice but to keep the divorce a secret until my grandma’s condition becomes stable p>
Maisie was furious when she heard this.
That old hag, Nadine again!
It was always Nadine who thwarted her plans and interfered in all her schemes to marry Ryan. Now, the old woman was even keeping Ryan from divorcing Jenessa as quickly as everyone would have liked. It was infuriating!
Maisie swallowed her frustration and channeled her resentment into crying instead.
“But I’m really scared, Ryan,” she sobbed helplessly.
“When do you think you can finalize your divorce? Will I have to wait for another three years p>
Her ploy did its job, as Ryan’s heart gradually softened. In particular, the mention of the years she had waited played into his conscience and deepened his guilt.
“No, I won’t let you wait that long again,” Ryan cajoled her, even as he suppressed the resistance rising in his heart.
“I’ll take care of the divorce once I get back p>
This finally satisfied Maisie, if only a little. She gave him a sweet smile before melting into his arms.
