Chapter 373
Chapter 373:
It was so “thoughtful” of him to carve out time from his busy day just to make things difficult for her.
She hadn’t walked far when a firm hand caught her from behind.
“Jenessa p>
Ryan’s hand clasped her slender wrist, his warmth spreading through her skin.
His voice made her even more irate. Jenessa shook off his grip and shot him a fierce glare.
“What is it now, Mr. Haynes?” She spoke with heavy sarcasm.
Taking a deep breath, Ryan responded sharply, “Why did you disregard my inquiries? Are you truly ready to forsake such a substantial project for Richard? If so, ‘good’ for you p>
Jenessa responded with a derisive laugh.
“Mr. Haynes, weren’t your inquiries merely a tactic to impede me? It’s evident you didn’t want me involved in this project. I am aware of my limits; there’s no need for me to create additional challenges for myself p>
“When have I ever tried to impede you?” Ryan countered, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion.
Tears shimmered in Jenessa’s determined eyes.
“It appears you suffer from a short memory. I might overlook today, but what about the past three years? Do you not recall your actions? Must I refresh your memory as the aggrieved party p>
At her words, the memories of their three-year marriage returned to Ryan. He had treated her coldly, often mocking and diminishing her.

Guilt overwhelmed him, and his earlier frustration vanished.
Softening his voice, Ryan spoke gently.
“You’ve misunderstood. I was merely looking out for you, as a friend concerned about your professional well-being. Your work shouldn’t be disrupted by those who don’t matter p>
After a brief pause, he added nervously, “Didn’t you once say that even if we divorced, we could still remain friends p>
Jenessa turned away coldly.
“Even friends need to maintain boundaries p>
“I’m sorry p>
In that instant, Jenessa could hardly believe her ears. She turned back to see Ryan, now with his head bowed before her.
Ryan was actually apologizing to her!
During their three-year marriage, Jenessa had come to know Ryan’s prideful and self-centered nature all too well. Yet, here he was, offering apologies without a moment’s pause.
Struggling to contain her astonishment, Jenessa responded with measured coolness, “There’s no need for you to apologize. I’m on my way out now, please move aside p>
“Jenessa, let’s talk this through,” Ryan implored, his voice laced with a plea for her to stay.
“There’s nothing left to talk about. I have commitments elsewhere. Could you please not hold me up?” Jenessa’s tone was unwavering.
Confronted by her firm stance, Ryan stepped aside with reluctance.
Jenessa hastened away, leaving Ryan alone and bewildered.
He was slowly coming to understand just how profoundly Jenessa had transformed.
Upon returning home, Jenessa received a call from Juan.
She had braced herself for losing the project after her clash with Ryan, the key investor.
“Congratulations, Sloane. We’re moving forward with the collaboration p>
Jenessa was taken aback.
“Really? Even after my behavior this morning p>
Juan’s voice was reassuring.
“Mr. Haynes was merely an observer today. Our producers and partners hold you in high regard p>
Jenessa paused, considering the implications. Taking this project would likely entail more interactions with Ryan.
However, she recognized that WorldLink was linked to numerous projects.
Inevitably, she would encounter more contracts associated with WorldLink. She couldn’t possibly reject them all because of Ryan, could she?
Steering clear of Ryan completely seemed unfeasible. Moreover, she had secured this project on her own merits. Why should she step back now?
With renewed resolve, she replied, “Thank you for your confidence. I’m on board p>
Shortly thereafter, Jenessa signed her contract with the production team.
