Chapter 281
Chapter 281:
Soon enough, they were at the marriage service center. In front of them were two copies of the divorce agreement.
“If there are no issues with the procedure,” the clerk said, “please sign your names p>
The clerk had barely finished speaking when Jenessa grabbed the pen and signed her name at the end of the document. She then slid it over to Ryan.
His expression turned dark, but he decided to give her one last chance.
“Are you sure you won’t regret this p>
“There is nothing to regret,” Jenessa replied, her eyes fixed ahead.
“We won’t have anything to do with each other after today. Why, do you think you’ll regret it p>
Provoked by her indifference, Ryan sneered. He’d be damned if he let his pride suffer for her sake.
“You think I can’t live without you or something? Let me remind you that I only married you because of my grandma. Now that her health is stable, I’m more than happy to get rid of you p>
With that, he also signed his name, albeit with more flourish.
It only took a few minutes for their divorce to become official. Jenessa was a little dazed when she finally held her copy of the divorce decree.
After all the setbacks and hurdles she had faced, she could finally close this chapter.
She ran her thumb over the paper, allowing the relief to wash over her.
The last three years she had devoted to this man had ultimately been a mistake, but that no longer mattered.

The important thing was that, starting today, she wouldn’t have to think about Ryan again.
“I’m leaving,” she said icily as she stood.
“Hopefully, we won’t have to see each other again.” Then, she turned and left without a backward glance.
Ryan also stood but didn’t follow her immediately. He froze in place, feeling his world crumble around him. An overwhelming sense of loss came over him, as if he had just let go of something important, knowing he could never get it back.
The next thing he knew, he was calling out to her.
“Jenessa p>
Jenessa turned around with an impatient look on her face.
“What is it now, Mr. Haynes p>
Ryan’s footsteps faltered at the way she addressed him. It hadn’t even been half an hour, and it was as if she had already written him out of her life.
He squared his shoulders and strode over.
“We may be divorced now, but my grandma is still recuperating from her surgery. You must come and visit her regularly. I hope you don’t forget the kindness she has shown you all these years p>
“Of course not,” Jenessa snapped, averting her gaze.
“I will never forget her kindness.” She walked away before he could say another word.
Once again, Ryan stood in place, letting the sensation of drowning in a bottomless pool overtake him.
Meanwhile, Jenessa hopped into her car and took a photo of her divorce decree. She posted it on her social media with the caption, “Rebirth p>
