Chapter 76
Chapter 76:
“Jenessa, right, YOU must stop this charade. That dress is surely a knock-off p>
In a slow and deliberate tone, Jenessa responded, “Maisie, as a supermodel, shouldn’t you be able to spot a genuine luxury brand? Perhaps you’ve never actually worn one p>
Rage bubbled within Maisie. She had never been privileged to wear such an esteemed brand, and she was adamant that Jenessa hadn’t either.
“Your dress is definitely a fake!” Maisie advanced, tugging at a section of Jenessa’s dress to check the logo.
“See? This logo isn’t the same as the usual ones from the brand p>
Triumph flashed in Maisie’s eyes as she mocked Jenessa.
“What do you have to say now p>
Suddenly, the fan of NFY erupted into laughter, capturing the attention of the entire room.
“Maisie, are you truly a model or merely a bumpkin?” she teased, lifting an eyebrow in amusement.
“Did you not know that NFY haute couture dresses feature different logos as each designer applies their own unique mark p>
Struck dumb by this revelation, Maisie couldn’t find the words to respond.
The very ladies who had been commending Maisie swiftly changed their allegiance to Jenessa.
“Miss Wright, please accept our apologies for our earlier oversight. That dress is truly becoming on you p>
“Now we see the stark contrast between genuine elegance and mere affectation p>
Maisie was seething with anger at how quickly they had turned on her. Just minutes ago, these same people had been showering her with praise. Now, they were doting on Jenessa and even ridiculing herself. It was exasperating!
Only Paola stayed loyally by Maisie’s side.
Seeing Maisie’s tense face, Paola tried to offer some consolation.
“Miss Powell, don’t let it get to you. It’s only a dress. Sloane Todd has only just returned to the scene. Who knows what the future holds? I still believe your designer is superior p>
“Shut up,” Maisie snapped, her face flushed with anger.
She felt an urge to slap Paola for her ignorance. How could Paola dismiss Sloane so lightly? Everyone in the industry recognized Sloane’s prominence. The designer of Maisie’s dress had always lingered in Sloane’s shadow.
Only after Sloane’s mysterious disappearance did this designer start gaining some notoriety by adapting Sloane’s distinct style. As Maisie mulled over those ladies’ comments, her resentment deepened.
Since Sloane’s return, Sloane had effortlessly partnered with NFY. But how could Jenessa, with her limited connections, secure a Sloane-designed dress? Maisie grew increasingly bitter, convinced that Jenessa lacked the connections needed to approach the upper echelons. Perhaps Ryan was behind this. He had, after all, presented Jenessa with another dress from NFY’s latest collection.
The more Maisie dwelled on this thought, the fiercer her anger grew.
Finally, the group of ladies who had been singing praises to Jenessa dispersed.
Seizing her moment, Maisie approached Jenessa with a frosty demeanor and demanded, “Jenessa, be honest with me, where did you get this dress p>
She narrowed her eyes, full of suspicion.
