Chapter 83
Chapter 83:
“Hold this and stay put p>
The ruffians, infuriated by Ryan’s unwavering confidence, launched themselves at him with savage cries.
Jenessa stood off to the side, clutching Ryan’s jacket, too terrified to watch the fight. Her eyes were tightly shut as she tried to suppress the fear that threatened to consume her. The fine fabric of the jacket, still warm and scented with Ryan’s presence, offered her a strange sense of comfort, almost as though he were there holding her close.
The sounds of the intense fight echoed through the air, causing Jenessa to flinch. She dreaded hearing Ryan cry out in pain. However, the screams that erupted were those of the ruffians.
Gathering her courage, she hesitantly opened her eyes to find Ryan standing unharmed, calmly fastening the cuffs of his shirt. The once-arrogant ruffians lay sprawled on the ground, groaning in pain and clutching their injuries.
“Get lost,” Ryan commanded, his icy stare cutting through them.
“We’re going; we’re going!” the ruffians stammered, hastily picking themselves up and disappearing into the shadows.
Now, the deserted street was left to Jenessa and Ryan alone.
Ryan brushed off his clothes. Turning, he noticed Jenessa staring at him, her eyes wide with shock. He let out a soft chuckle. He walked toward her and asked gently, “Were you scared p>
Jenessa tried to speak, but her voice was stuck. After a moment, she managed to say, “Yes. I never thought you’d defeat so many at once p>
“Do you doubt my abilities?” he asked, his eyebrows arching in a playful challenge.

Jenessa was captivated by the faint smile playing on his lips. She noted the sweat beads on his brow. His breathing was slightly heavy, yet he appeared far from worn out. This side of Ryan, so unlike his usual calm demeanor, struck her as both cool and wild.
Her heart pounded wildly, her cheeks flushed with warmth. Overwhelmed, she looked away.
“Of course, I trust your abilities,” she said quickly. Then, shaking off her surprise, she added, “Why are you here? I thought you were with Maisie p>
Ryan’s face grew serious.
“When did I say I was leaving with her? I just walked her to the car and instructed the chauffeur to take her home. I came back to find you gone from the party. Luckily, I got here in time p>
“Don’t you realize how risky that was? What if I hadn’t made it?” Ryan frowned deeply.
“I’ve told you repeatedly to stay close. Why won’t you listen p>
His sharp words silenced Jenessa. Her complexion turned ashen. She realized leaving without notifying anyone was a mistake. Had Ryan not shown up, the encounter with the ruffians could have ended disastrously.
Noticing her troubled look, Ryan softened his tone, aware that he might have been too stern. He sighed, and his voice softened, “Forget it, as long as you’re safe, that’s what matters. Let’s head back p>
“But…” Jenessa hesitated, clearly troubled.
Ryan took the jacket from her hands, giving her a reassuring glance.
“After what just happened, do you really think it’s safe to walk alone p>
Shaken by the evening’s events, Jenessa replied quickly, “I’ll go with you.” She followed Ryan to the car, parked only a short distance away. They entered the car, and it pulled away quietly.
