Chapter 544
Chapter 544:
Were she and Ryan simply not meant to be?
She bit her lip as she steeled herself to reject him, but the growing crowd outside the office door caught her eye.
Everyone there knew who Ryan was, and if this escalated, it would spell trouble for all three of them.
Taking a deep breath, Jenessa finally spoke.
“Let go of me, Mr. Haynes. We can talk, but only after I’ve confirmed that Rick will be fine p>
Reluctantly, Ryan released his grip.
Holding onto Jenessa would only complicate matters further, so he could only swallow his anger and watch helplessly as she led Richard away.
They hurried to a nearby clinic, just a stone’s throw from the Fashion Days office, where a doctor soon tended to Richard’s injuries.
Only when Richard was all bandaged up did Jenessa exhale a long sigh of relief.
“It’s nothing major,” the doctor assured her.
“Just keep the wound dry for a few days p>
As the doctor left, Jenessa stared at the bandaged wound, guilt washing over her. Ryan was such a brute!
“Rick, I’m so sorry for dragging you into this,” she whispered shakily.
“It’s not your fault.” Richard’s voice was a soothing balm, gentle and reassuring.
Just moments ago, on the phone, Jenessa had heard everything. Richard’s injury was a direct result of defending her. His kind words now were meant to comfort her, but she knew the truth all too well.
Jenessa lowered her head, a spark of determination igniting within her. She refused to let Ryan continue to disrupt the lives of those she cared about.
After a moment’s contemplation, she said, “Rick, rest here for a bit. I need to deal with Ryan and make sure he doesn’t cause any more trouble at your office p>

Richard, however, was not willing to let her face Ryan alone. Alarmed, he quickly stood up, concern etched on his face.
“Let me come with you. Ryan’s emotions are unpredictable right now; I’m worried he might try to hurt you p>
“I’ll be fine.” Jenessa gently shook her head, a soft but firm smile on her lips.
“This is something I need to handle myself. I can’t let him get away with everything he’s done to me and those close to me. Rick, please, just go back and rest p>
Richard’s shoulders slumped slightly, his gaze dropping as he relented.
He knew she was right, and as long as this matter was resolved, peace would follow.
He could wait a little longer.
As Jenessa stepped out of the clinic, she found Ryan waiting by the entrance. His presence was a dark cloud, looming and tense.
She approached him with deliberate calm, her eyes avoiding his. In an icy tone, she asked, “Where do you want to talk p>
“Jenessa, let’s go home first, okay?” Ryan suggested gently.
“We’ll talk there p>
On the surface, he might have looked calm and collected, but only he knew just how restless and anxious he felt at that moment.
Jenessa’s lips curled up in a sneer.
“Go home?” she echoed incredulously.
“Whose home p>
“Our home, of course,” Ryan replied earnestly, his eyes searching hers.
“The home where our child will grow up happy and healthy p>
Jenessa’s expression hardened.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Haynes, but that’s my home, not ‘ours.’ Now, let’s cut to the chase. If you keep rambling about irrelevant things, there’s no need to continue this conversation p>
She turned on her heel, poised to leave, but Ryan quickly stepped in front of her.
