Chapter 219
Chapter 219:
Jenessa’s refusal instantly transformed Maisie’s expression. Maisie fixed her with a resentful glare.
“What right do you have to refuse, Jenessa p>
Then, sneering as if she had uncovered a secret, she accused, “I knew it! You never planned to go through with divorcing Ryan p>
Jenessa returned Maisie’s stare, her demeanor calm and unafraid.
“I never said I wouldn’t divorce him. However, I don’t want your charity. I refuse the alimony and the house. I don’t need anything p>
Maisie’s eyes widened in disbelief; words failed her for a moment. She believed Jenessa was out of her mind to request nothing.
Soon, Maisie’s mocking laughter filled the room.
“It’s just us here, Jenessa. Drop your act. No one is watching p>
Her gaze conveyed pure contempt.
“It’s well-known how greedy your family has been. Throughout your marriage, they’ve unabashedly requested money from Ryan. Ryan and I are only looking out for you. Just imagine if they were to sell you out again after the divorce. That would tarnish Ryan’s reputation too p>
Jenessa felt a coldness settle in her chest. She remembered all too well how her family had indeed approached Ryan for money soon after her marriage. Once she discovered their actions, she had put a swift end to it. For the past year, her family had shown improvement, and she had diligently worked to rectify their past mistakes. Yet, it seemed Ryan still harbored a negative view of her and her family.
“That is my concern, and I will deal with it myself,” Jenessa said icily.

Although Maisie was secretly pleased to withhold any support, she still gave a thinly veiled warning.
“Fine, just make sure you don’t regret this decision p>
She motioned to her assistant to make the necessary changes to the divorce agreement.
Jenessa continued, “There’s another thing; I won’t agree to leave the country p>
Maisie’s face contorted with rage, and she almost stood up to confront Jenessa physically.
“You’re divorcing Ryan. Are you planning to linger here and pester him p>
Jenessa’s reply was slow and measured.
“Divorce isn’t a disgrace. I haven’t done anything wrong. Plus, I have my own career here. You have no right to tell me to leave p>
Maisie couldn’t resist another jab.
“Your job was just a secretary position at WorldLink, and you’ve been let go. What career are you talking about p>
Jenessa dismissed the need to explain further.
“If that clause is removed, I will sign. If not, forget it p>
“You!” Maisie was seething, but the presence of other patrons in the café forced her to contain her anger.
Reluctantly, she realized she couldn’t dismiss Jenessa’s demands if she wanted the divorce agreement finalized swiftly. With a grimace, she consented.
She instructed her assistant to revise the document according to Jenessa’s terms, then slammed it down in front of Jenessa.
Gritting her teeth, Maisie said, “The agreement has been changed as you requested. Sign it now p>
