Chapter 36
Chapter 36:
Seizing the moment, Jenessa pushed him away and ran from the car. Fearing Tucker might chase her, she sprinted into a nearby alley. Out of breath, she leaned her hand against a cold wall, her heart racing.
“Where am I?” She looked around, questioning herself silently while gasping for breath.
Suddenly, a shadow darted past. Startled, Jenessa stumbled back, falling to the ground, her legs giving out. Frozen with fear, she was sweaty, her voice hoarse. Looking up, she realized it was just a stray cat.
Trying to stand, she felt a sharp pain in her ankle and couldn’t move.
Then, a stabbing pain hit her belly.
“My baby…” she murmured in fear.
“I can’t allow anything to happen to my baby.” Tears filled her eyes. She took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and dialed the nearest hospital.
“Hi, um… I’m pregnant, and my belly hurts a lot. I can’t move and need help p>
After Jenessa explained her situation, a nurse responded apologetically, “Ma’am, all our ambulances are busy right now. We can’t send one immediately. Please stay calm and let me know if there’s any bleeding p>
“No bleeding, but my belly hurts, and my ankle is twisted. I can’t stand,” Jenessa managed to say through the pain.
“Ma’am, try to get help from someone nearby or a family member to bring you to the hospital. We’ll make an ambulance available as soon as we can p>
After the call ended, Jenessa clutched her painful belly with one hand and held her phone with the other. What should she do now? And what if Tucker found her again? She was too weak to defend herself.

Despair loomed, the pain clouding her senses. Ryan’s image flashed in her mind, and she quickly dialed his number. He was her only hope now. Their baby couldn’t be in any danger.
At a bar.
“Ryan, on Maisie’s behalf, I must inquire: When do you plan to marry her?” someone asked.
“Yeah, Maisie has been there for you, waiting for years. Has she ever suffered more than this?” another added, his speech slurred from alcohol.
As the birthday celebration for Kane drew to a close, the group, fueled by their drinks, encircled Ryan and Maisie with incessant teasing. A flicker of joy crossed Maisie’s face as she discreetly gauged Ryan’s reaction. She adopted a considerate tone and said, “Don’t pressure him. Divorce isn’t a decision he can make alone. It’s hard for him too p>
Her words subtly painted Jenessa as the one blocking the divorce. Catching her insinuation, the group reacted with disdain.
“That woman is truly shameless. You’ve returned, yet she still refuses to divorce Ryan p>
“Don’t say that. Life is not easy for Jenessa as well,” Maisie interjected, her tone gentle yet understanding, which only intensified the group’s aversion to Jenessa.
“Hmph! Maisie, don’t be deceived by her. She cunningly manipulated her way into marrying Ryan. She’s a schemer. Be wary of her p>
As the accusations flew, a wave of irritation washed over Ryan. In a sudden move, he slammed his glass down. The sharp sound cut through the chatter, silencing everyone.
What was happening? Was Ryan about to stand up for Jenessa? The crowd was confused.
“I need to go to the restroom,” Ryan declared icily, standing up and leaving.
Relieved, the group exhaled. Ryan had not defended Jenessa.
