Chapter 235
Chapter 235:
“I’ve already told you – it has nothing to do with you. Let go of me p>
Ryan’s irritation at her defiance was palpable, but the sight of the injury tempered his anger.
Recognising the need for a more tactful approach, he softened his tone.
“Don’t take a shower just yet. You have three minutes to get ready and come out,” he instructed, loosening his grip.
Leaving the bathroom, Ryan quickly made a phone call, his voice carrying a piercing chill.
“Find out what’s happened to Jenessa’s parents
recently,” he ordered, his tone leaving no room for discussion.
The assistant quickly relayed the results of the investigation to Ryan.
“This morning, Jenessa returned to her parents’ house,” he reported.
“According to the neighbours, she seemed to have had a disagreement with her family. One neighbour was on the verge of calling the police p>
Ryan thought about the bruise he had seen on Jenessa’s back and his anger flared. It seemed that her parents had hurt her, which was why she was in hospital.
A cold light flashed in Ryan’s eyes. He couldn’t believe they would dare hurt his wife.
His thoughts then turned to the fact that Jenessa hadn’t gone to him, her husband, after her injury, but had turned to Richard for comfort.
Ryan snorted dismissively. He had already warned Jenessa to stay away from Richard. It was clear to him that the man had feelings for her. Was she blind to that? And yet she continued to have frequent dealings with the brat.
In his mind, Jenessa was just a clueless fool.
Still seething, Ryan heard the bathroom door open. Jenessa stepped out, barefoot and in her pyjamas.
Ryan turned at the sound and his frown deepened at the sight of her bare feet.
“Can’t you manage to put your shoes on?” he scolded sharply.
Jenessa looked at him, confused by his harsh tone.
As she reached for her shoes, she stumbled and began to fall.
Before she could steady herself by grabbing the door, Ryan, only a few steps away, quickly caught her.
Jenessa, who had just stepped out of the shower, was still warm and wet with steam. Her face and the skin around her ears were flushed.
At such close quarters, Ryan inhaled her sweet scent.
His gaze darkened, his Adam’s apple bobbed and he took a deep breath, struggling to keep his composure.
He looked away, trying to distract himself, and taunted, “What are you up to now, Jenessa? Trying to fall to lure
to lure me in? Do you think you’re clever enough to seduce me by pretending to trip p>
Speechless, Jenessa pushed Ryan away, flustered by his overwhelming presence.
She leaned against the wall, her expression stoic.
“1 just suddenly felt weak,” she explained.
“Enough of that. Sit on the bed,” Ryan ordered abruptly.
Jenessa eyed him warily.
Was he going to carry on with what he had planned before?
A flush of warmth spread through her, but her thoughts were interrupted as Ryan retrieved the first aid kit.
Her surprise was obvious. Why was Ryan suddenly so considerate? Was he really going to treat her injuries?
Noticing that Jenessa hadn’t moved, Ryan was about to ask her again, but stopped at the look on her face.
“What? You look surprised,” he remarked.
With that, he reached out and guided Jenessa to the bed.
Caught off guard, Jenessa blurted out, “I thought you were going to p>
