Chapter 358
Chapter 358:
She found the notion bitterly ironic. What had she done to make him believe they could still be friends after their bitter split? How could they possibly maintain a cordial relationship post-divorce?
“Unlock the door. I want to leave,” Jenessa stated icily.
Ryan’s brow furrowed, and he stood his ground.
“No. You haven’t eaten yet. I’ll drive you back after you’ve had dinner p>
Jenessa was incensed. How could he exert such control?
She struggled to maintain her composure, masking her anger.
“Even after our divorce, you want to remain friends. But does a friend behave like this? I just want to go home. Shouldn’t my wishes be respected p>
She looked at Ryan right in the eye.
Ryan remained silent for a brief moment, then secured his seatbelt and grasped the steering wheel tightly.
“Fine, I’ll take you home p>
It was uncharacteristic of Ryan to concede, but he eventually acquiesced and altered their course.
As he drove, Ryan caught a glimpse of Jenessa’s still-red eyes.
His heart felt heavy, and he blurted out, “Please, no more tears. I’ll heed your words next time p>
Caught off guard, Jenessa instinctively touched her eyes.
Her cheeks warmed with a flush of real embarrassment.
“I’m not crying p>
Ryan let out a laugh and humored her.
“Alright p>
Jenessa turned her head, unwilling to face Ryan’s exasperating demeanor any longer.
Silence enveloped the car for the remainder of the drive.
Jenessa’s gaze was fixed blankly on the window, her thoughts a chaotic swirl, uncertain about her current standing with Ryan.
Upon their arrival at Brinley’s apartment, she immediately attempted to exit the car.
Yet again, the door was locked.
Turning sharply, Jenessa glared at Ryan with fierce indignation.
“Unlock the door,” she insisted.
Ryan hesitated, not ready to part with her, unsure when their paths would cross again.
Seizing the moment, he asked earnestly, “Are you planning to stay at Brinley’s indefinitely? Doesn’t that get a bit inconvenient p>
Jenessa shook her head dismissively.
“I’ve been swamped and haven’t had the chance to find a place of my own yet. Brinley’s been very accommodating p>
The ease of her relationship with Brinley sparked a flicker of jealousy in Ryan, pained by her apparent trust in the Lloyd siblings rather than in him.
“I offered you a house when we divorced. Why refuse it if you had nowhere to go p>
With a scoff, Jenessa’s face conveyed clear frustration.
