Finally understanding, Rohan nodded and quickly scurried off to do as he was told.
Now, it was just Ryan and Maisie left in the office. The two lapsed into silence. Maisie, feeling anxious, warily watched Ryan as he worked.
“Ryan, are you upset? I’m sorry; I shouldn’t have come with you today. I didn’t mean to cause you any trouble p>
Without looking up from his work, Ryan pursed his lips into a thin line, his tone indifferent.
“It’s not your fault. But these types of rumors are dangerous. If my grandma catches wind of it, it could be problematic p>
Maisie felt her shoulders relax slightly, but she still couldn’t help but pout.
“But, Ryan, when we get married, we won’t have to hide it from your grandma anymore p>
Ryan hesitated for a moment, feeling somewhat heavy in his chest. Eventually, he exhaled softly and reassured Maisie, “I’ll make sure my grandma accepts you, but it will take some time p>
Hearing this, Maisie’s heart fluttered.
“Don’t worry, Ryan,” she said graciously, “I can wait. After all, I’ve already waited a few years. As long as you won’t abandon me, that’s more than enough p>
“Maisie, if you hadn’t risked your life to save me from that fire, I wouldn’t be here today. I would never abandon my savior p>
Years ago, Ryan had gotten trapped in a fire, hovering on the brink of death. It was Maisie who boldly risked her life to save him; she was the reason he was still alive. Therefore, he had vowed never to betray her and to take care of her for the rest of his life.
Maisie’s heart leaped to her throat at the mention of that incident. She averted her gaze nervously, afraid that he’d see the guilt in her eyes.
Ryan valued the fact that she had rescued him—but without it, would he still care for her as much as he did?
She slowly raised her head and stole a glance at the man she wanted so badly, unable to resist asking, “Ryan, if I hadn’t saved you, would you still have feelings for me p>
Ryan mulled over her question for a couple of seconds, which felt like an eternity to Maisie.
“You were always there for me through thick and thin. I’ll never forget that. So, I’m more than happy to give you whatever you want p>
Maisie blushed shyly, stepping forward to hold Ryan’s arm intimately, leaning into him.
“Ryan, I don’t want anything else. I’m content with just having you by my side forever p>
At that moment, Jenessa happened to walk in with some documents.
“Mr. Haynes, I p>
The intimate scene in the office made her halt in her steps. Stunned, it took her a brief moment to hurriedly look away and turn to leave.
Ryan pulled his arm free from Maisie’s grasp and frowned at Jenessa.
“Where do you think you’re going p>
Ryan felt a surge of irritation upon seeing how eager Jenessa was to leave. His expression frosty, he continued to question her mercilessly.
“Who said you could just barge in without knocking? You’ve worked here for so long, yet you still don’t know the rules p>
His blatant accusation felt like a slap to Jenessa’s face. Moreover, she was still reeling from the fact that she had caught the usually business-focused Ryan getting intimate with Maisie in his office. Was he no longer satisfied with just having Maisie stay at his villa? Now, he couldn’t control himself in the office as well?
