Chapter 514
Chapter 514:
“You literally told me to ‘come here ASAP!’ You sounded so urgent that I thought something happened! And now you’re saying you just wanted to have a meal with me p>
Jenessa nodded, her lips curling into a sheepish smile.
“Yes, just a meal. I’m sorry, Brin. I should have been clearer. I didn’t mean to alarm you p>
She gestured for Brinley to sit beside her, trying to smooth over the misunderstanding.
As Brinley exhaled in relief and took a seat, Jenessa’s gaze finally fell on the disheveled man standing next to her friend.
Richard, who had been quietly observing the scene, frowned when he saw Allen.
“Brinley, why did you bring this stranger here? Is he your new boyfriend or something p>
“He’s not my boyfriend,” Brinley retorted.
“This is Allen Stimson, a genius lawyer. I was worried that Jenessa was in trouble, so I asked Allen to come with me p>
For a lawyer, Allen was uncharacteristically speechless at Richard’s unwarranted disdain towards him. Filled with righteous indignation, he straightened his clothes angrily and shot a glare at Brinley.
“I was peacefully sleeping at home, in the middle of a beautiful dream, when Brinley so rudely woke me up. She kept pounding on my door and yelling so loudly that I thought someone was trying to rob me!” Allen fumed, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“It turned out it wasn’t a robbery, but a kidnapping! Brinley, you dragged me out without giving me any details! Were you raised by wolves? Look, my pajamas were almost torn apart! If anyone I know sees me like this, I’ll be the laughingstock of society p>

Brinley quickly put her palms together and bowed sincerely.
“I’m really sorry, Allen. This is all my fault. Don’t worry, I’ll go with you and buy you new clothes later. I won’t let you become the laughingstock of society p>
Allen snorted indignantly, “Is that all? New clothes? What about compensation for the damage to my mental health p>
In a battle of negotiations, how could Brinley possibly win against a renowned lawyer?
Feeling guilty, she stuck out her lower lip and tried to coax him gently.
“Please don’t be angry with me. I know I’m in the wrong. You’re a kind and generous person, so please forgive me this time p>
Wearing a frosty expression, Richard intervened.
“My sister was simply acting out of concern for her friends. She let her emotions get the better of her, and for that, I apologize on her behalf p>
But Allen wasn’t having it.
“Whoever’s at fault should apologize directly. We’re all adults here. Only toddlers need their guardians to speak on their behalf when they make mistakes. Am I right, Miss Lloyd p>
Backed into a corner, Brinley had no choice but to stand up again and humbly say, “I’m sorry for the trouble I’ve caused you. Please let me know how I can compensate you for this p>
She didn’t want to get on bad terms with Allen, knowing how capable he was as a lawyer and how she might need his help in the future. Offending him was not an option.
At this point, Jenessa diplomatically stepped into the conversation.
“Mr. Stimson, this is also my fault for not making myself clearer when I texted Brin. So please don’t blame her. By the way, you mentioned you just woke up, so you probably haven’t eaten yet. Please sit with us. This meal’s on me, and you can order whatever you like p>
