Chapter 429
Chapter 429:
It all started from that fire.
It was so horribly ridiculous that it was almost funny.
And sure enough, Jenessa’s lips twitched, and she let out a bitter, emotionless laugh while tears welled up in her eyes.
Ryan didn’t know what to do. He grabbed her shoulders, trying to meet her gaze.
“What is it, Jenessa? What’s wrong p>
His face made Jenessa feel sick to her stomach. Every time she looked at it, she was reminded of the stupid predicament she was in and how pointless all her suffering had been.
Helpless and resigned, she felt her knees give out beneath her.
“Get out!” she screamed in a broken voice as she shoved Ryan away.
He frowned, worried and confused about what was happening.
Ryan truly thought that everything would be fine if he just explained himself clearly. To his horror, Jenessa seemed to despise him even more.
“Why?” he asked desperately.
“What did I do? Did I say something wrong? I only told you the truth p>
Jenessa scoffed and glared at him.
When she spoke again, she said each word with sharp emphasis.
“Listen carefully, Ryan Haynes. It was not Maisie Powell who saved you from the fire. It was not she who almost died. It was me p>

Ryan’s mind went blank in an instant.
His expression shifted dramatically as he exclaimed, “How could this be possible p>
He had always believed that Maisie was the one who saved him. Yet now, Jenessa was revealing a shocking truth: it was she, not Maisie, who had risked her life to save him.
Ryan’s heart pounded fiercely. Clutching Jenessa’s arm, he pressed urgently, “If you were the one who saved me back then, why did you disappear p>
Jenessa’s mind was swirling in chaos, her head aching sharply. Exhausted, she turned away and wearily said, “Ryan, please leave. I can’t stand to see you right now p>
Ryan longed to ask more but stopped himself at the sight of Jenessa’s pale face. Taking a deep breath, he responded with tenderness, “All right, get some rest. I’ll get to the bottom of this soon. Please trust me p>
Jenessa gave no reply, consumed by fatigue and a deep desire to sleep.
Seeing her condition, Ryan decided to leave her alone. He gave her one last look, full of reluctance, before leaving.
Hurrying out of the building, he phoned Rohan and instructed, “Set aside all other tasks. Initiate an immediate inquiry into the fire incident where I was trapped. Find out who actually rescued me at that time and gather information about Jenessa’s situation then p>
Caught off guard by Ryan’s abrupt interest in the past, Rohan swiftly agreed.
Upon Ryan’s return to his office, Rohan had unearthed some information.
“Mr. Haynes, on the day of the fire, a young woman courageously entered the inferno to save you. It was a chaotic scene, with many injuries. Multiple ambulances were dispatched from various hospitals. The woman who rescued you was hospitalized and remained in a coma for over two weeks before awakening. Her identity is protected for privacy reasons. Your injuries were severe, necessitating immediate overseas medical treatment, which prevented you from meeting her,” Rohan explained.
With swift analysis, Rohan connected the dots. The investigation indicated that his savior had been under medical care at a local hospital after her heroic actions.
