Chapter 266
Chapter 266:
Maisie froze, her eyes wide as she stared at Ryan, caught in the moment like a deer in headlights. She desperately hoped he would deny her accusation, but he didn’t.
Ryan looked at her, his face an emotionless mask. What little expression he had only conveyed his impatience with her.
“Ryan!” Maisie exclaimed, flustered. She grabbed his hand, speaking quickly, “You can’t fall for Jenessa! I saved your life! I saved you! Have you forgotten your promise to marry me when the time comes p>
Her desperation was clear as she clutched his hand tightly, but Ryan effortlessly pulled it away.
“You don’t need to remind me,” he said coldly.
“Every day I remember your sacrifice, and the promise I made. You have no reason to worry, Maisie. Just go back and rest. Don’t think about anything else p>
But how could Maisie not worry p>
“But, Ryan…” Maisie started, desperate to make her case, but the cold, warning look he gave her stopped her in her tracks. His eyes told her everything—he already knew what she was about to say and wasn’t interested in hearing it.
With no other choice, Maisie swallowed her words and left.
She hated Ryan for rejecting her. She had genuinely believed she would succeed that night. But not only had he refused to touch her, he acted as if she didn’t appeal to him at all! Was he even a normal man with physical needs?
The more Maisie thought about it, the angrier she became. She blamed everything on Jenessa again. If that woman didn’t exist, she would have been Ryan’s wife by now. They might even have a child!

Maisie’s eyes widened with fury as she nibbled on her thumb, formulating a new plan to rid herself of Jenessa once and for all.
Still seething, she went to work the next day, preparing for the upcoming Fashion Week. The designers had been waiting for her most of the morning, and it only took Maisie half an hour to berate all of them.
She had barely finished another tirade when there was a knock at the door.
“Excuse me, Miss Powell. Ms. Jenessa Wright is here to see you p>
Maisie sneered, standing up.
“Oh, really p>
The audacity of that woman to come here! How bold she was.
Maisie had been worried that she might not get the chance to vent her anger to her satisfaction. Fortunately, her prime target had come willingly, and just at the perfect time.
To her surprise, however, Jenessa had not come alone. She had several uniformed officers with her.
As soon as Maisie stepped out of the meeting room, a few policemen approached her.
“Maisie Powell? Ms. Wright here has accused you of being the mastermind behind her recent kidnapping. Please come with us to the police station so we can take your statement p>
Maisie hadn’t anticipated Jenessa involving the authorities. She took a deep breath and tried her best to calm herself. She told herself she had nothing to fear. As far as she knew, Jenessa had no evidence linking her to the abduction.
Taking comfort in that thought, Maisie squared her shoulders and held her chin high.
“What are you talking about? How dare you slander me like this? I was the victim! Why would you accuse me of being the mastermind p>
The officers exchanged a glance, and Maisie seized the opportunity to intimidate them.
