Chapter 136
Chapter 136:
“What did you just say p>
She wondered if she was hearing things.
Ryan inhaled deeply and repeated, “I’m sorry, Jenessa. I misunderstood you p>
Jenessa turned to see Ryan, his face filled with remorse. She never thought the proud and stubborn Ryan would apologize. Ryan was a figure of immense privilege, accustomed to others yielding to him.
After recovering from her initial surprise, Jenessa spoke slowly, “An apology to me isn’t enough. There’s someone who owes me an apology p>
She averted her gaze and said firmly, “Given what Maisie has done, I could call the police p>
“No, you can’t call the police!” Ryan interjected immediately after she finished speaking.
Jenessa frowned, irritated that he might still be protecting Maisie.
“Why?” she demanded, glaring at him.
Ryan clenched his jaw and declared, “We can’t escalate this situation, but I promise to find a solution and get Maisie to apologize to you personally p>
Feeling the irony of the situation, Jenessa forcefully shook off his hand. She had hoped that after presenting the evidence, Ryan would confront Maisie. But it appeared that even with the truth unveiled, he would still shield that woman.
Holding back her disappointment, Jenessa scoffed.
“Since you’re so intent on defending her, forget the apology. I’m just a commoner; how could I expect an apology from people like you guys? Let’s just chalk it up to bad luck p>

Ryan recognized her anger and allowed her to express her feelings.
“Jenessa, tell me what compensation you want. I’ll do whatever it takes to make it right p>
But by now, Jenessa had lost all faith in Ryan.
“I don’t want anything from you,” she stated coldly.
“Just sign the divorce papers as soon as possible. That would be the best compensation p>
Ryan’s expression immediately shifted, and he grew angry once more.
“You’re so eager to divorce me, aren’t you p>
His frown deepened as he studied Jenessa’s face, his deep eyes flickering with a hint of sadness.
Jenessa returned his gaze calmly and spoke softly, “If I don’t divorce you soon, I don’t know what Maisie might do to me. Ryan, I can’t be on guard constantly. I may not be able to fight her off, but at least I can try to avoid her, right p>
“I can assure you that she won’t try to hurt you again,” Ryan replied, his brow furrowed.
Jenessa found his assurance ludicrous. She knew Maisie’s vicious nature all too well, yet Maisie could camouflage herself effectively around Ryan. Thus, Jenessa didn’t believe Maisie would change her ways. Moreover, what if Maisie did repeat her actions? Even though Ryan had recognized Maisie’s true nature, he remained biased toward her and would not take real action against her.
How could Jenessa trust Ryan—a man who didn’t love her—with her and her baby’s safety?
Just as she was about to respond, Ryan cut her off.
“My head hurts. Let’s just say we’ll discuss the divorce later. We can’t divorce now. Don’t bring it up again,” Ryan said, clearly annoyed.
