Chapter 404
Chapter 404:
“Rick, what were you about to say?” Jenessa asked.
After pausing for a brief moment, Richard managed a smile and said, “Nothing. It’s late now. You’ve had a long day. Go home and get some rest p>
Jenessa bid him farewell and left without giving it much thought.
Watching her through the rearview mirror, Richard gripped the steering wheel, his expression filled with regret. He was torn inside. He didn’t know how to express his feelings, nor was he sure if they could remain friends after his intended confession.
Upon arriving home, Jenessa received a call from Ryan. She hesitated for a moment before answering.
“Jennie, have you gotten home safely?” Ryan inquired.
“Yes, I just got home p>
Ryan then asked, “Where is Richard? Is he still with you p>
Jenessa was momentarily at a loss for words. She couldn’t fathom why Ryan was always concerned with such minor details. It seemed irrelevant to him. However, considering Ryan had come to her aid earlier, she took a deep breath and responded with patience, “He dropped me off downstairs and then he left p>
Ryan let out a relieved sigh, clearly pleased.
“That’s good p>
“If there’s nothing else, I’m going to hang up,” Jenessa stated, eager to end the conversation.
“Jenessa!” Ryan called out quickly, his tone softening.

“Didn’t you mention earlier that you wanted to discuss something? What was it p>
It was only at that moment that Jenessa remembered her appointment with Ryan, where she had planned to confront him about the fire. She was bewildered by everyone’s belief that Maisie was the hero when, in truth, it had been Jenessa who had saved him. What puzzled her even more was Ryan’s sudden coldness towards her, which, according to Brian, stemmed directly from that incident.
As Jenessa tried to make sense of everything, Maisie’s unexpected appearance in her studio only complicated matters further. The last thing Jenessa had expected was for Ryan to be injured again while trying to protect her. With one event piling on top of another, her thoughts were a mess.
Given Ryan’s current condition, hospitalized and unable to meet outside, Jenessa decided it wasn’t the right time to address their issues. She spoke in a subdued tone.
“The matters I need to discuss are complicated. Let’s wait until you’re discharged from the hospital. In the meantime, think about how you will handle Maisie p>
Despite Maisie’s repeated attempts to harm her, Jenessa believed it was time for Ryan to act. She considered the possibility that Ryan would finally take a stand, but part of her still believed he might choose to protect Maisie once again.
To her surprise, Ryan replied in a hushed voice, “You decide how to handle Maisie this time. I won’t interfere p>
“Really? I can handle it my way? You’re not going to bail her out again?” Jenessa asked, her voice tinged with mockery.
She remembered the exhaustive efforts she had put into gathering evidence against Maisie, hoping to see justice done. Yet, Ryan had undermined those efforts.
Determined not to feel powerless again, Jenessa remained skeptical of Ryan’s promise.
“I assure you, I won’t do that again,” Ryan stated firmly.
Jenessa was taken aback.
“You mean you’re actually going to let her face the consequences on her own p>
