Chapter 437
Chapter 437:
She had never seen him lose control like this before.
Concerned, she wondered what could have driven him to drown his sorrows in drinking.
Hastily, she messaged Brinley.
“I’ve found him. Come quickly p>
Brinley’s reply came swiftly.
“Okay p>
Folding her phone away, Jenessa moved closer and gently prodded, “Rick, wake up. How are you feeling p>
At the sound of her voice, Richard stirred, his eyes opening slowly. He gazed at her with a mixture of disbelief and relief.
“Jennie… is it really you? Am I dreaming p>
Overcome with emotion, he reached out as if to touch her face. The person he had longed for suddenly appeared before him, and Richard felt as though he were still dreaming.
Jenessa noticed Richard’s hand, wrapped in thick bandages with blood seeping through the gauze. She reached out and gently held his hand, recalling Brinley’s mention of Richard’s injury at the magazine office before he vanished.
Combined with his sorrowful drunkenness, it was evident his wound hadn’t healed properly.
“Rick, you need to go to the hospital right now. Otherwise, Brin will worry when she sees you like this!” Jenessa frowned, grasping his arm, attempting to pull him up.
Richard remained motionless, staring at her intently, clarity returning to his gaze.
In a hoarse voice tinged with stubbornness, he asked, “Brin will worry about me, but what about you p>
Jenessa felt uneasy but responded, “Of course, I’m worried about you too p>
Richard showed no joy at her answer, pressing on, “Why p>
Without hesitation, Jenessa replied sincerely, “You’re like family to me. When family goes through something, I naturally worry p>

Suddenly, Richard grasped her wrist tightly, his gaze intense.
“Just family p>
His brows furrowed, sadness mixed with alcohol evident.
Jenessa cried out softly as pain shot through her wrist.
“You’re hurting me; please let go p>
She struggled, but Richard tightened his grip, pulling her closer, as if afraid she might vanish if he let go for even a moment.
Suddenly, he pulled her even closer.
Confused, Jenessa looked at him and asked, “What’s going on with you p>
Richard appeared to be in great pain. Taking a deep breath, he spoke in a low voice, unable to contain his emotions.
“Jenessa, I never wanted to be just your family p>
Jenessa felt a pang of unease.
“Rick p>
But Richard’s next words shattered her thoughts completely.
“I want to marry you. I want to take care of you for the rest of my life p>
A loud rush filled her head. Jenessa’s mind went blank.
Initially planning to dismiss Richard’s words as a drunken joke, she hesitated. After all, the Richard she knew would never say such things.
Yet, as she met his intense, passionate gaze, brimming with suppressed emotion, she found herself speechless. She was now utterly stunned.
Jenessa took a moment to snap back to reality. She stared at Richard, astonished and at a loss for words.
It had never crossed her mind that he felt this way about her.
