Chapter 576
Chapter 576:
“I think so too. Apart from her beauty, Sloane doesn’t have much in common with Mr. Haynes. She doesn’t deserve him p>
“Shh, keep your voice down. You wouldn’t want her to overhear p>
“What if she does? It’s not like she’s still Mr. Haynes’s favorite anyway p>
Jenessa felt an ache in her heart as she listened to this conversation. She was suddenly nauseous, and her face turned pale. She immediately rushed to the restroom.
Jenessa, who had just recovered from an illness not too long ago, had little appetite. She barely got to the restroom before she violently threw up. Everything she had forced down earlier came back up.
The physical discomfort from vomiting caused tears to well up in her eyes. The vomit left a bitter taste in her mouth when it was done.
She went over to the sink to wash her mouth. When she looked into the mirror, she saw her haggard reflection staring back at her.
Startled by her own appearance, she immediately leaned down to wash her face.
How had she let herself go like this? Wasn’t it just a breakup?
Jenessa tried to stand, but it looked more like a grimace. She took a deep breath and attempted to straighten up. However, a wave of dizziness washed over her, consuming her strength and causing her to stagger.
She managed to grab the sink to stop herself from falling.
With difficulty, she pulled out her phone and dialed the emergency number written on the wall.
The call rang for what seemed like an eternity, but no one answered…
Jenessa, unable to keep supporting herself, slowly sank to the floor in panic. She searched her phone for anyone who could help her. Sweat beaded on her face, and her consciousness slowly began to fade.
In her distress, she accidentally dialed a number. The call went through, and the person on the other end picked up immediately.
“What is it?” Ryan’s cold voice asked through the phone.
The shock of hearing Ryan’s voice brought Jenessa back to her senses, and she hurriedly hung up the phone.
Ryan, on the other end of the call, frowned when the call was disconnected. He glanced at where Jenessa had been sitting and noticed she was no longer there. Where had she gone? And why had she called and immediately hung up? Could something have happened to her?
Ryan stood up and asked a staff member about Jenessa’s whereabouts.
“I saw her heading to the restroom,” the staff member answered.
“Thanks,” Ryan said, and he immediately made his way to the restroom.
When he reached the restroom, he saw Jenessa walking out. When Jenessa saw Ryan, she immediately looked away and made to walk past him.
“What happened earlier?” Ryan asked with a frown.
Jenessa pursed her lips and softly said, “I called you by mistake. I’m sorry p>
She then tried to leave again, but this time, Ryan grabbed hold of her wrist and intently looked at her. The first thing he noticed was how pale and worn she looked.
“You don’t look so well. What’s the matter? Are you ill? Tell me the truth p>
Jenessa, surprised at Ryan’s apparent show of care, asked, “Are you worried about me, Mr. Haynes p>
Jenessa called him “Mr. Haynes p>
The formal tone caught Ryan off guard, and he instinctively let go of her wrist, stepping back.
“You only called me to get my attention, didn’t you? How did this turn into me worrying about you?” Ryan said, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
Jenessa looked down, her heart stinging sharply, and murmured, “I’m sorry. I dialed your number by mistake p>
She hadn’t expected Ryan to answer the call at that moment, nor for him to be here now. Still feeling unwell, Jenessa didn’t have the energy for a confrontation.
Ryan turned away, his voice cold.
